    I'm supporting Italia.

But after we bomb out, I'll be throwing some love to Spain and England.

I will root for Hungary, my parents home, if they ever make it back to the World Cup. Until then, I root for Switzerland.

It was their time to shine until they decided to hire SGE as coach...

I feel bad for them too and see them as victims of a dictatorship.

US is my number 1, after that Australia, they showed good heart in the last cup. i'll pull for both my fellow north american teams, south korea, all the african teams and england, germany and maybe spain from europe

it's unfortunite that 6 of the teams i was pulling for will be in the same round of 16 quadrant (US, Eng, alg, ger, aus, gha)!!!

    Has to be the dutch.
They're normally good for a performance of real football without too much play acting and rolling around (assuming Robben isn't playing).
They're also usually pretty good for a bit of knockout-round heartbreak

My team is South Korea but...

I'll also be supporting Argentina. I really want Messi to do well in this cup and become a true legend even on the International stage.

Along with Spain. I want Spain to win.

Others include South Africa (come on hosts!!!), USA, and ENGLAND.

I'm a bit Eh on North Korea. If NK does well, without a doubt, Kim Jong Il will take advantage of their "superiority" in football.

After America, I'll be pulling for Germany (heritage), Netherlands (love their style of play), and Ivory Coast (I want to see an African team win in Africa).

Apart from the NL, I always like the unknowns and the known underdogs.

And Belgium to some extent, but not when we play them.

I wish Ireland was in the WC, I have a lot of family members that lived there. So, in lieu of that, I'll be rooting for Mexico partly because they'll play France and partly because I want our confederation to have a good showing and to give Mexico something to be happy about given the recent violence that has been occurring.

I would love to see North Korea win a match. They might be pretty difficult to break down. Have a feeling they could suprise and get a least a draw.

Under our constitution, North Koreans are all legal South Korean citizen. Therefore, I should not have any problem with rooting for them. :D Also the Norks playing against Brazil, Portugal, and Ivory Coast is definitely David vs. Goalith thing.

    -Germany
They always find ways to win the games after the games. You gotta respect that. I am a fan of Ballack and Schweinsteiger.

    -Spain
They play exciting brand of football.

I am Greek, born and raised in Australia mainly.

Only saw one other poster mention Greece on this topic, which saddens me a little but I guess most people don't like our national teams' approach to football. All I can say is that we need to use the tactics which best suits the players we have. We can't compete offensively with Brazil, Netherlands, Argentina etc. It would be suicide to try.

I hope Greece at least accomplish something for Greeks (Hellenes) around the world to cheer about. God knows we need some cheering up in these difficult times for my country. A second round appearance would be lovely but difficult.

As for Australia I have a similar experience to a previous poster when he was describing the USA. "Soccer" in Australia is only followed by the majority of the population when the national team succeeds. For example, the locals/media will even call it "football" for that period and cheer. When they don't do well (or between world cups), it is referred to as "soccer" again and it is laughed at and ridiculed by the majority. For this reason I don't particularly want to see them go very far. I'd like to see the sport progress of course, but as most of you here know football requires patience and the Australian public should support the sport even when there is relatively little success. Then they will see progress I believe.

    As for other teams:

    Hope to do well:
    Serbia
    Italia
    France

    Hope don't do well:
    Argentina
    Nigeria
    South Korea
(all in Group B with Greece (Hellas))

Good luck to all and I hope it is a memorable World Cup.

So much love for the portuguese...ok, Ronaldo. :D It's a bit sad to root against a team for reasons that have nothing to do with football though...

My first choice is obvious. Other than that, I wouldn't mind seeing South Korea, Japan, Chile and New Zealand making some waves.

After Decades of Rivalry an Enmity between Germany and Holland, i´ll actually support our Love-Hate-Friends in Orange! A lot of Dutch Players are current or former players of my favorite team Hamburger SV: Joris Mathijsen, Khalid Boulahrouz, Eljero Elia, Nigel de Jong, Ibrahim Afellay, Rafael van der Vaart, Romeo Castelen, Ruud van Nistelrooy

I also wishing well our lovely Neighbours from Switzerland and Denmark! And all the lovable people I got to know in the fantastic Summer of 2006.

Espacially the crazy fans from Mexico, Argentina, from all over Africa and Australia ! you are so lovable guests!

No luck to our eternal rivals from Italy and the “old enemy” England ( Tears of Heroes dressed in grey, no plans for final day !) ;-)

Im from the USA and have a couple of teams Ill be routing for... I've always have had a liking of the German team and hope they do well but I predict that they'll have a disappointing world cup this time around :-(

    I also am rooting for:
    Mexico
    Denmark
    Holland
    Argentina
    Spain

    (I know, I named quite a few!)

The teams I want to flop are:
    FRANCE
    Italy
    Brazil

My main team is the US (where I'm from + my longest and first "love" in international soccer). But every World Cup, I do of course cheer for a few other teams.

    This time:

South Africa (home team, don't want them to fail reaching second round)
Australia (barring any possible 2nd round US match)
New Zealand (they've got little chance, but that's part of the reason)
    North Korea (see above)
Honduras (Concacaf connection + see above)
Holland (my favorite of the seeded teams)
Cameroon (the other African team I'll be supporting)

As far as teams to root against, I'm not sure I really have any teams I "hate" per se, but obviously the teams playing against the ones I want to do well I'm hoping won't do so well. Being a US fan there's a bit of the rivalry thing with Mexico, but that's very mild unless it's a direct matchup between them or another team I like. In general I hope it's not one of the "favorites" that wins this time. And a new winner would be great (besides Spain, because everyone expects that)...

If Portugal says farewell to WC soon, I will root for Argentina (Maradona was my favorite player when I was a kid) and Brasil (for cultural reasons).

Special respect for Germany and Spain.

Same for France National team, but you gave me too many nightmares over the years :D (euro 84, euro 2k & WC 06 always in the semi's), so I hope we have a chance of a rematch this time. The other nightmare team is Greece for obvious reasons.

I'm mostly neutral to everyone, just expect to see great football!
