US soccer fans have a lot to talk about this week:

Szetela being drafted to The Crew

DMB picked up by PSV Eindhoven

    Convey picked up by Reading

Which of these transfers gets you most excited? For me, this is really a tough call. DMB is my favorite player and to see him in European competitions is going to be really exciting, but yet I get most excited to see Convey purchased by Reading. I'm a Reading supporter and this is great news for the club. They are gonna have a great shot at making the premier league this year and hopefully Convey can make an impact.

    What do you think?

As a DC United supporter, the Convey transfer interests and affects me the most, but I think the Beasley transfer is the more newsworthy nationally. PSV Eindhoven is a better club than Reading, and Beasley, at least right now, is a better player than Convey -- witness the respective transfer fees: $1.5 million for Bobby, $2.5 million for DMB. But this is a big opportunity for Bobby, and if he does well and Reading moves up, then he's in the Premiership at last. Also, if he does well, he may get there whether REading moves up or not. A big regret for me is that I won't get to see him play on TV.

As to Szetela being drafted by the Crew, I'd look for him to be in NY/NJ very quickly. He's only 17; his father recently died; his mother is not well. He needs to be at home. This resembles the Freddy Adu situation, where MLS has to accomodate a talented young player's personal needs. They key will be what Columbus gets in exchange.

Yeah, that is one big time drawback. We'll only get to see perhaps a handful of Reading games and that's only if we're REALLY lucky. Only if Reading can make it far in the FA Cup and perhaps at the end of the season if they are in the promotional playoffs.

I can't wait to see Bobby and Marcus on the field at the same time... blowing doors down.

    My order of interest:

1-DMB- The cusp of the big time if he breaks in and the team does well.

2- Szetela- IMO, he'll do better than Adu because he looks more physically prepared. America keeps another top young prospect, and ait's another very young professional playing domestically, like other great soccer countries.

3- Convey- I claim the right to see this as disappointing. It's the First Division, and we've already had an American with Reading and watched as they narrowly missed promotion in recent years. It will make him better, and give him/MLS more money, but it's a step rather than a jump like the other big transfers. Stupid work permit stuff.

I agree that Szetela is better than Adu right now, but keep in mind that Szetela, at 17, is at least two years older than Freddy, who just turned 15 last month. The test for Freddy is, what will he be like at 17? At 20?

I also agree that Bobby's move is more of a horizontal move than a move up, but certainly it is financially a move up -- to a reported $500K from $143 in MLS. He was also getting stale here. I think 4 plus years of losing in DC, with three coaches (Rongen, Hudson, Nowak), combined with the work permit fiasco last year, took a psychological toll on him. The move is probably good for him between the ears, if nowhere else. The real question is whether it gives him a better opportunity for the Big Time than DC and MLS. Stay tuned.

This probably should be a whole new thread, but we have such good young players coming up... imagine what our WC team is going to be like! I wonder it Adu could get in WC form in 2 years?

I actually think all 3 are pretty exciting. DMB and Convey are two of my favorite players and I'm so happy for them, being able to play in Europe and all, I think having those two play for European clubs may do the national team a lot of good in WCQ. Even though I am really upset that I'm not gonna be able to see them play every weekend now since my parents won't let me charge 20 bucks just to watch some soccer game in Europe.

I think the Szetela thing is exciting but being a metrostars fan I'd rather see him playing for the metros than the crew. I heard he wanted to be a metro anyways and I think the metros should trade whoever they need to in order to get him, as long as they're not regular starters. Some of the guys on that team are starting to piss me off but w/e. I really don't think it makes sense to have him move out to Columbus cause I heard he lives like 20 minutes from Giants Stadium neways and his family's in Jersey so I could understand why he'd be pissed. There's an article at metrofanatic.com that makes him seem a bit more upset than he might actually be, I didn't see the lottery thing last night cause I can't comment.

But w/e happens to all 3 of them I'm sure DMB and Convey will be great players in Europe and Szetela will be a great player no matter what team he winds up playing on Crew, or metros, or whoever.

I've never really rated Convey, so it has to be DaMarcus for me. He's always seemed to me to be lacking a bit in technique, so I see the Holland move as ideal.

DMB picked up by PSV Eindhoven, Psv is a pretty good club. In a good league. Convey to Reading is intresting but it would have been different if he would have been sent to Everton or Man U someone in the premier league.
