for what I read on peru's game last nite....they are not ready yet! venezuela? paraguay's..... I think their heads are on the olympics
i think peru for several reasons first of all peru is not good playing at home. in fact in the eliminatorias they have won more points on away turf than at home. the only team we continuosly beat at home is chile. second reason spells jorge soto. he is by far the worst rightwing defender of the tournament. there is noone as bad as him. fact is that he never plays as a right back for his club team. it is the coach paulo autuori that decided to put him there. third reason is martin hidalgo. he is the worst left wing defender of the tournament. fact is that he shouldn't be in the national team at all and he plays as a left wing midfielder in his club team were his biggest weakness is considered being his defensive play. fourth reason spells paulo autuori. although he has done some good things this guy is a terco (como se dice en ingles?). he never admits that he is wrong and don't change his starting line up no matter how bad players like soto, hidalgo or jayo play. he also should have given some opportunity to younger players like cominges, villalta and rinaldo cruzado. the qualfiers are more important and the youngsters need international experience. instead he insists on hopelesss nobodies like henry quinteros.
soto scores nice goals! like the one in recent copa libertadores at Home....it was awsome, at least top 5 in the tournament.
paraguay is taking a full squad of sub23? or the same grp that goes to the olympics? that could be embarrasing, if they show up for 3 or 4 games of top Practice ala conmebol.

soto is 33 this year he is wasted at right back martin hidalgo is the biggest liability btw to me soto's goal was the best of la copa libertadores
I voted for Brazil. When everyone expects perfection, you're bound to dissapoint. Just think of what would happen if they did not win it, let alone make it to the final. Surely most people would see that as a dissapointment. I guess I don't expect a lot from Peru, so I don't see them as having potential to be very disapointing.

Brazil or Argentina, or perhaps both. Brazil will dissapoint unless they win it, because even if they can claim they are missing some of their top players, they are still deep enough and have the talent to be favorites. Argentina also will be a dissapointment unless they win. They are not missing as many top players as Brazil, so it is a great chance for our players to prove that they are still a great team. On the other hand, the coach is still Bielsa, so I am ready for a letdown.
The most disappointing thing that I have noticed while watching the first three days is the passing. It seems like every team is passing the ball away whenever they get in the opponents box. The Peru game was horrible with the passing.
That is true, but give also credit to the defenses. Teams are pressuring well and are not giving much space. The exception is Ecuador, which in their first match was giving Argentina's midfielders too much space and time. And we all saw what happened.

after tonight I think we can say Venezuela, they wanted to be taken seriously by the other S.A. nations, they showed improvement while they were understimated, now that they teams are paying them some respect, they dissapoint, I really thought they could beat Perú, but I guess I was wrong.
Hate to day it, but so far Ecuador. Sad to see Aguinaga go out without a win, but he's still a classy guy. Uruguay a little bit, but what a gol by Vicente Sanchez last night!
