I fear for Jack Wilshere, he's being hyped up to the gills and is only 18. I think people will turn on him if he's not Maradona MK2 at the age of 20.

Nobody ever really turned on Joe Cole and there was far more hype surrounding him.

The first time I heard of Joe Cole was when he was already playing for West Ham. Wilshere's hype seems to be purely down to a half decent pre-season game for Arsenal.

Joe got loads more hype before he even played for West Ham. He scored seven goals against Spain in an England youth game and Man Utd were always linked with him. Man Utd were always after him since he was about 12 when they gave him a trial but Joe wanted to stick with West Ham.

Granted youth games are more readily available now which creates a different problem but I always remember people talking alot about this lad from West Ham that was going to be very good. I don't think I've witnessed anything bigger than that for hype since.

Maybe Wayne Rooney but he was playing first team football much earlier and is an exception.

    Points well taken.

I still fear for Wilshere as he'll be breaking through into a veritable wilderness of talent.

You could probably say the same for Joe because he was always dumped on the left because of his versatility.

I think being under Wenger should help Jack alot. There is hype no doubt but that is the way it will be.

I don't like him being left in the hands of Pearce though. The systems he plays make it hard for him to get into games and he doesn't really know what to do with him.

I voted for Johnson but I'm also looking forward to seeing Lee Cattermole possibly break into the midfield. He's young and seems to be a bit more possession/defensive minded versus the typical touch and shoot type midfielders that seem to be prevalent in the national side at the moment.

Jack Rodwell, this lad is going to be the back-bone of the English squad for the next generation.

Gotta be Rodwell, the guy is composed, quick and powerful. I remember the first game he and Heitinga played in midfield together and for the latter being an accomplished international Midfielder, Rodwell looked every bit as productive and calm in the middle as he did. Not to mention his eye for goal also, Man Utd fans will remember him absolutely powering past Jonny Evans to slot home at Goodison.

Joe Cole definatly got more hype than Wilshere is getting. Apart from his romp against Spain, one of my memories of his breakthrough was when he ran the show in West Ham's 9-0 romp of Coventry City in the FA Youth Cup.

Wilshere is not even a first team regular, and he is not even consistent.

I remember when i watched him play in 2009 U17 Euro, he didnt impress me as much as the Dutch n German U17 players.

Again, overhyping some random 18/19 year olds doesnt mean u actualy have enough talents coming through.

These so called "wonderkids" need to be proven- playing regularly for their clubs, showing promises n being consistent.

or else u'll keep being disappointed due to the overexpectation. Walcott n James Vaughn were overhyped by fans of their clubs n the meida particularly. Thats defintely not good for their development

    Rodwell is my pick though.

When are the mods going to do something about this troll?

This is the third or fourth time this one has tried to make the same stupid point and failed to back it up.

Nobody in this thread has even mentioned Wilshere in the light the poster claims. This same moron was claiming English fans thought Walcott was the best English player to come through for 20 years in 2006  Never backed it up when questioned.

Keeps mentioning Vaughan even though Vaughan was never hyped much because he's been injured continuously since he came onto the scene years ago. So doesn't even know about English youth but keeps coming in talking rubbish.

It's simple trolling to spam other peoples boards in different threads.

Perhaps you should stop stating what you think English people think.

What I was going to say. The list is far from exhaustive. The key question is whether any of these sprogs are going to be given some playing time to aid with their development.

Yeah it is quite amusing the post he/she makes. Clearly lacking knowledge on English youngsters, just flames and spouts the same nonsense.

Probably doesn't even realise the injury problems Walcott and very especially Vaughan has had. Vaughan has had serious knee ligament damage in BOTH knees now and has barely had a run of games. He hasn't been injury free since he first came on the scene at 16.

Walcott has had problems with his dislocated shoulders and other injuries. Wenger was seething that Pearce took him to the last Under-21 finals after he was playing recently for the seniors. As a result Walcott did not get enough rest for pre-season, which probably added to his injuries.

The mods should atleast give this user a warning.

Yep we won that tournament and have some talented players at that level. Even the ones that did not go to the tournament for various reasons are promising talents. It's just like Red Bird has said, they have to be given the opportunity in the future to get some first team chances.

Some of the lads who play for the Championship teams will get some game time next season imo.

Gordon Strachan has already indicated that Pilatos and Williams will get their chances next season and Whickham will no doubt feature regularly for Ipswich. The guys at the bigger clubs will likely need loan moves to get anything more than the odd Carling Cup match.

Yeah Strachan did mention that at the end of the season. Wickham basically established himself as a regular towards the end of the season and got 3 goals in his last 4 games iirc.

Regarding the players at Premiership teams. They will probably stay in their Academies and reserves for one, two or three more years before a loan or first team opportunity. Remember Nathaniel Chalobah, one of our best players at this level, is still only 15 and hadn't even broke into Chelsea's Academy team yet.
