Which of these two referees would you have referee then next Quakes match in Spartan?       Just a hypothetical question, to be sure (there's no way MLS could get one of these choices to referee here ), but which of these two referees would you like to see refereeing the next Earthquakes match in Spartan Stadium?       And would either (or both) of these choices be enough for you to visit Spartan just to see him referee?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Which of these two referees would you have referee then next Quakes match in Spartan? So he'd be close enough to hurt him? -KMJvet
I also wish Oliver Kahn could be the opposing goalie, and every opponent would wear a Torsten Frings mask. Maybe Donovan would work a little harder for that goal.
Which of these two referees would you have referee then next Quakes match in Spartan? An aside from the dying moments Saturday...Jair Marrufo neglected to tell Richard Heron how much time on to add at the end of regulation. So Heron guessed when he held up 2 minutes of stoppage. Marrufo must have gone along just to make his 4th official look good because we couldn't figure why there was any stoppage time in the 2nd half.
A little-known fact about Pierluigi Collina from the April 28th issue of Soccer America magazine (page 34):       "The stark baldness is not by design. This condition resulted from the disease alopecia, contracted in 1984. Although non-life threatening, alopecia can be traumatic, both physically and mentally. It involves serious loss of body hair, particularly evident about the head. There is little hope for reversal, but many support groups exist to guide sufferers through the illness's stages and rebuild lifestyles and confidence. Collina serves as a shining example of accepting and even using the condition to develop a unique personality."       Upon reading that, I took a closer look at the closeup picture of him in the magazine - it turns out that he doesn't even have any eyebrows or eyelashes!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Scarlet fever will do the same thing. Of course, you are too young to remember that, Goodsie. Pierluigi alone would be good for another 6,000 in attendance. It looks like even Guy didn't vote for his dad.
If anybody votes for Richard Heron I say we get a rope, find a tree and..... Goodsy, there isn't a comparison between those two,it's as simple as night and day.
Amidst all the hype about our win this weekend, something was lost: Isn't this the very first time the Quakes have won a game at spartan in which Richard Herron had a hand? I asked Richard about it, and he believes that is true (He also noted that he has sent somebody off every time he has visited Spartan before). Is the curse finally lifted?! Was the magnet-schedule night mojo sufficiently strong to break the Richard Herron red-card-and-0-points curse?
After having gotten a real close-up look at the man during the rally-tunnel, I have to say Dick really does look like my father about 20 years ago. ...who happens to also be named Richard (but don't call him Dick). It was kind of creepy. Made me almost forget to cuss out the Fish as he walked by .
He might be right about sending someone off every time, but the Quakes did win last year in the game that he sent off both Burns and Mulrooney after their fight.
It seems that Collina's future in the World Cup may be in doubt - currently at age 43, he's too young to retire from refereeing in general, but will be too old to ref in World Cup 2006 unless FIFA eases the World Cup maximum-age limit for referees by then (which is actually being considered).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Voted for Collina, but on second thought I have to go with Heron, mainly because A) he looks like he would miss any dive a player made (say Ruiz) and B) he looks like he would pull that players arm off and beat him to death with it when he tried to complain (again, thinking about Ruiz).
I hope they relax the rules. For the guy generally considered to be the best ref in the world by players, coaches and fans alike, it's important to keep him around.
I hope so too. Besides being the best ref in the world, he certainly has a unique presence on the world stage (for referees, that is).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
It's a good thing that you included the comma, or otherwise I would've thought that you and Collina both made the long trek to Spartan together on the way to a game he was to ref.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I would hope they do that. The current age rule is itself too old. They should simple use a fitness test as the grounds for it ( you can retake if you have a bad day ) as many refs of 50 years of age are fitter than some at 35. Of course, your on-field work is always being reviewed anyway so I don't see any problem with letting the older bunch on the pitch.
Exactly... this would also give the 35-year-old referees more of an incentive to get/stay in shape, as the fit 50-year-olds could very well take their place in the World Cup.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
My write in vote is for Salazar. He screwed you boys royally and judging from the reaction on these boards, I think you all liked it and want it again.
