MLS has signed Danny Szetela, a promising young mid who is from the New York/New Jersey area. His team has yet to be determined. There is supposed to be a weighted lottery to determine this. What team will win him in the lottery?
It's gotta be NJ, for the simple reason that BS needs a really big controversy to keep the troops w/ their panties in a bunch.
You also have to consider that the Metros can always try to acquire him from the team that wins the lottery.
So who exactly decides how to "weight" the lottery? Are there any rules for this, and if so, are they ever followed? For the most part I understand and agree with the "for the good of the league" mentality. But this is becoming laughable.
There are specific rules about the weight of the lottery. Go to www.MLSnet.com and read the article about this signing. In the article there a page linked the draws out the percentages of chance that each team gets him. http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20040716&content_id=8501&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Team Chance Dallas Burn 26.2% Columbus Crew 21.1% MetroStars 16.6% D.C. United 12.6% N.E. Revolution 9.1% Colorado Rapids 6.3% L.A. Galaxy 4.0% K.C. Wizards 2.3% Chicago Fire 1.2% S.J. Earthquakes 0.6% So Dallas, Cbus, NY and DC have the best change to earn his rights. IMHO all that means for Dallas, Cbus and DC is that if they "win" they'll be getting "further considerations" in return for trading him to the Metros.
He might fit well on the Crew. They need a midfielder or two. He might be able to start right away for them.
My guess is on the basis on how they finished had there been a single-table format at the end of the 2003 season, and not based on current records.
The article explains it. I skimmed through it and it sounded like they take the win percentage from the team's last 30 games. 30 because there are 30 in a season.
That is actually one of the better thought out things they have done. Of course that doesn't guarantee the results have been influenced by the way they want them to turn out.
No, no, no. I mean, how did they come up with those actual numerical percentage, like 26.2% for the Burn? Why 26.2% and not 25% or whatever?
This poll is cofusing. One question is what team will win the draft, another is what team will get danny. There are two answers. 1) NE and Dallas I heard were leading contenders to win the lottery. 2) Mutts will get danny. How he gets to NJ will depend on whoever wins the lottery and who they want.
"He might fit well on the Crew. They need a midfielder or two. He might be able to start right away for them." If he goes to the Crew, Mr. Szetela meet coach Andrulis and kiss your career goodbye. I've never seen Szetela play, but I know he would spend 2 years on the pine.
