I'll be testing this theory in a week or so. I'll be driving around Los Angeles. Having recently tested the waters in Boston, I should be able to compare the two locales. If the theory proves true, this Gringo will be hopelessly lost in LA. The times I spent lost in Boston were, of course, simple diversions to enjoy the quaint old city as, clearly, someone of my heritage would not get lost there.

    People....PEOPLE!!!

The idea is going for maximum exposure and revenue. I think they'll go with another football stadium. One interesting note is college football stadiums are notoriously closer to the playing field than professional. So I suggest they could play at any of the following venues:

    LA coliseum (los angeles)
    Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (Florida)
Meadowlands (New York) (They sold it out the first time, so why take the chance?)
    University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona)
    Qwest Field (Seattle)

The Swamp is too narrow a field and does not have a wide enough space to adhere to the minimum width a match venue can have. They also sold out Chicago in the Gold Cup. The atmosphere was great and unlike at the LA Coliseum and to an extent at the Meadowlands your more on top of the action and although Soldier Field is big it's more intimate than any other big stadium I've been to or seen. My vote is Chicago's Soldier Field for publicity and revenue and Columbus' Crew Stadium for home field advantage and to keep with the tradition.

Guys, Boston is not Western Massachusetts. OK?

There's a big difference between Newbury Street and Turner's Falls.

Western Mass is snowy and rugged and rural.

This polemic got going because I suggested that Mexicans would be out of place in spots like Orono, Maine or Amherst, Mass. The local university crowds would be welcoming, of course, but would have little enthusiasm for the nacho blizzard. The Mexicans themselves, far from lacking in orienteering or navigational skills, would, I suspect, feel rather displaced and CULTURALLY disoriented in a town full of independent book stores in the middle of nowhere. An introduction to rural Yankee cantankerousness may also throw the Mexicans off, as well.

It's another world, guys. You think that you know everything but in certain spots back East, especially up country, your act won't fly. Even the woodsy hippies will have little patience for your brand of boisterousness.

As long as they dont shoot them like in Texas...:D

What wrong with little towns ? I found little towns here in California very welcoming, Solvang (with their out of place Danish charm) Buellton and Lone Pine are some of my favorite places, even small cities like San Luis Obispo offer some old California feel, long lost in LA.

Regardless of what they show on MTV Compton is NOT a tourist atraction

Although judging by your post you dont look like part of the MTV crowd, enjoy your stay in the Golden State.

It's business, but I hope to get out and about while I'm there. I'm attending a conference in Anaheim.

Cool, I strongly recomend a visit to the Dysney hall, or if Classical music is not your thing, I believe the Latin Jazz festival is on right now, check the LA Times web site for more info.

Maximum revenue? That's easy! Hold the game at a high school field and charge $800 a ticket.

Now that we're back to reality, why not Bristol Motor Speedway on the Tennessee/Virginia border? Roll out turf in the racing infield and sell 150,000 tickets easy.

I still think we should do it on the Smurf Turf in Boise for the Awesome factor. But that's just me.

Boise sounds good but I'd go for Honolulu or Alaska somewhere if the goal s to have less Mexicans there

Soldier Field is a great venue, that's for sure. I was in the 15th or so Row for the Gold Cup and felt as close to the action as I was in the front row at Giants Stadium. However, it's mainly a stadium for Friendlies. Anyone who has lived in Chicago can tell you that there are A LOT of Mexicans in that city/area. They can turn that place into a Mini-Azteca.
