If Chivas starts their MLS club for the upcoming season then it goes to reason there would be an expansion draft. The last time there was an expansion draft it was for 2 new teams and each existing team had to leave 10 players unprotected. So with only Chivas possibly coming in next year you can assume each MLS team would have to leave 5 players unprotected. Who would be your five?

    My 5 unprotected would be:

    Dayak
    Faria
    Lagos
    Waibel
    Conway

Agoos--I don't think he would be chosen, so this is a way to protect other players, one would hope this would be explained to him first
    Lagos
    Russell
    Conway
    DeRosario

Only player I could only see them wanting the middle-3, possibly.

No way, I'd pull a 'Dayak' and force a trade back to the Quakes.

    Doug,
Sometimes I don't think you like Conway.

Not to get all Prop 54, but if the Chivas-managed club is going to steer itself toward players of Hispanic descent, would it be a dirty trick to leave unprotected only Anglo-type players, knowing that Chivas wouldn't select them?

That's pretty simple, since you may lose Agoos anyway for salary cap reasons, expose him and hope the Mexicans take him and his salary. The other four have shown nothing really, so I doubt they would be picked up.

    Conway
    Agoos
    Waibel
    Saunders
    Levesque

Is there any reason at all to leave Russell off the list?!

The happiest day of my life would be if Russell suits up for Chivas in San Jose.

Since Chivas only chooses native-born Mexicans for its club in Mexico, maybe we should make their San Diego-(or wherever)-based club choose only Americans born in the United States.

Well, he definately makes the list of 10, he'd make the list of 5 if Agoos wasn't pulling down so damn much $$$.

That would be nice. Although they can always draft non-Hispanic players and then trade them for Hispanic players.
I bet, Antonio "Chivas" Martinez will be the first signee ;)

Wrongway - sucks (except Landon would miss his hug after scoring a goal)
    Leve - unknown

Would you really leave both keepers out there? Onstad's 35 years old...Conway's been shown up...do you really put Saunders out for the asking with the potential everyone says he has?

I just hate that team! HATE them! They make me sick! I still haven't accepted the fact that they're going to have a team in this league. THAT makes me sick. They can get their owner fishin' players somehow else. Fish them!

I think we will have to leave 10 unprotected, not 5.

There were 100 unprotected players last time, but only the best 30 or so mattered in the draft. Chivas would be dreadful if it could only pick from the 50 worst players.

I think we'll get to protect 8 players so mine are

    Donovan
    Mulrooney
    Dunivant
    Ching
    Agoos
    Mullan
    Robinson
    Corrales

I protect Corrales because he's mexican-american and would surely get grabbed.

I'm hoping Ekelund and Dayak wouldn't get taken due to injury history and age. Agoos seems to be indestructable, he might play till he's 40 and he's the leader of the defense. I don't think we'd lose Alvarez because Chivas' first priority would be to field a competitive 11 in 2004.

We can't waste a slot on the goalie because losing your goalie doesn't disrupt chemistry as much as losing a field player, plus there are still good american goalies out there (Reis, Garlick/Cannon, maybe Saunders, etc).

You'll have to excuse ldb, they just hauled away his 35 cars from his yard in Danville. ;) Was it true you were still in the jeep?

If we weren't talking Danville here we'd be talking Jeff Foxworthy "You Might Be a Redneck..." material here.

Yep, that Danville. They won't me let me drive my 1935 Ford Pickup with the chickencoops on the back, either.
