Portugese Joe's in Garfield might have it on....they usually show football from Portugal and PPV Matches.
Oliver has it listed as Setanta produced ppv on direcTV. Will other cable/satellite systems carry it?
According to Kevin Etzel's post in the USA Men: Fans and Travel forum, Nathan Hales is contacting the PPV provider for the USA - Canada match, so it sounds like the game will be shown there.
anyone think that place in Astoria would have it, I forgot the name but I rmember they showed some of the Gold cup matches
I talked to Carl at Nathan Hale's yesterday. He's looking into it....but don't count on it. Further news to be announced as it comes. The ESC winter par-tay will be a couple weeks later.
But don't count on it?! Are NO NYC pubs showing the match?! Michael K., next time you talk to Carl please tell him that everyone, on BS at least, seems to be counting on it indeed! And, further, tell him NO PLACE ELSE is showing the match! According to my math, that means an a$$load of business for Nathan Hale's. What's the flippin' problem?! Lastly, if NH ain't gonna show it, and Nevada Smiths ain't gonna show it, and nobody else is gonna show it, is there anyone out there who gets DirecTV at home and wants to split the cost? I don't take up much space, I won't make a mess, and I'll behave myself. Hey! I'll even bring my own beer! Whadda ya say?
Here's the phone number for Ilusiones Club: (718) 729-6476 I'd call 'em, but I don't speak a word of Spanish.
The flippin' problem is probably the fact that the game is a Setanta event, and they are notorious for charging outrageous bar/public viewing fees for their events. I think the fee they are charging for home viewing is insane enough...God knows what they are trying to hose bars for.
IIRC, that Honduras showing at NH was on regular PPV, NOT Setanta. One also needs a dish on the roof to get Setanta which NH didn't have. Not sure that that has changed. IMO, the only place that can/will show it is Nevada's and they're not the keenest on team USA if you know what I mean.
I, for one, live in Astoria. I've heard it said that there are others... But, that's probably just an urban myth.
to summerize Nevada's feelings baout soccer I'll paraphraise an old SNL skit: If it's not UK, it's crap!!!
Re: Re: Where to watch USA v. Canada? Jack Keane, the manager of Nevada's, is a huge supporter of the Nats, and if enough of us called, I'm sure he'd show the match. I've already talked to him and he's open to the idea (or was last week when I last saw him). The number is 212.982.2591.
Re: Re: Re: Where to watch USA v. Canada? I, too have seen plenty of US games at Nevada's, so any talk of a bias is just silly. It's all about two things: a) Whether or not the bar has the ability to actually get the game (I don't know whether NH's can, for a Setanta game) b)Demand. If these bars only get a few scattered calls from people wanting to see the game, then who can blame them for not stumping up extortionate amounts of money for a PPV game without knowing if anyone's going to show up to see it? It's great that you make yourself known here..but it's more important to make yourself known to the bars. And show up to see the games when you say you will, naturally.
I know the owner's cool with the US and all, I was just say about what I observed as far as some of the patrions go sorry to be misleading
