Didn't want to add to the Wolfsburg thread so I thought I would start a new one. Two sayings come to mind. Now as we did before our job is to support the manager and We don't. Demand a team that wins but at least a team that tries. I won't jump on the LVG out bandwagon but we need to see better selections. It took injuries to get the front 4 we desperately need but the midfield and backline looked horrible. I don't understand the decisions to pick kids for some games. I say play the young kids for the Europa and see what happens. Mata to the middle and Mephis up top. If we can sell Ince, Hughes and Keane then we can get rid of Rooney. He is hampering the attack.
Memphis up top alone or paired with Martial? As for the rest it doesn't make sense to get rid of LvG mid season but he should be held to a very short leash. If we don't make Champions league then he needs to go. Injuries haven't helped him but we weren't performing well early on in the season and I can't help but think when we are finally healthy again he will resort to the same old crap with Herrera on the bench and Rooney playing the full 90 every week.
You have lowered your expectations. He needs to go if he doesn't win something. This is Manchester United.
He doesn't need to, but he need to show some improvement and potential to win something in the near future. He hasn't done that though.
I am not encouraged by the things he's been saying recently. He's giving a lot of youngsters a chance, so that's one positive but apart from that I can't see many. The only hope is that because of the amount of injuries, he will be like last year be forced to play a good system (that includes Herrera) and we start doing better.
Maybe I have just accepted reality? In any event it's not that far fethched to think we can win the league this year. City and Arsenal have not run away with it yet, we go on a 5/6 game win streak we could end up top.
Not the same club anymore. You have zero reason to expect a title other than the name of the club. Maybe it's you who need to reel in your own expectations.
Benni I don't expect us to win the league but we should be at least in with a chance to win a Cup. It could have been the ********ing League Cup even, but we don't look even close to winning anything. I don't think it's an unrealistic expectation to hope for a good cup run. We got knocked out by ********ing Middlesborough at HOME. I am sorry but that is not good enough.
Ferguson was an institution within an institution. We were always going to have a difficult time transitioning from his era.
On the surface, sure. But I would argue that the rebuilding of Manchester United is more at the core. The club had a personality, a figurehead, a single philosophy for over twenty years. Ferguson was, to some degrees, the whole of the club. Once that came to an end, it was up to the new staff to work or build from the existing foundation. That did not happen as most fans and Ferguson himself expected. That one year with Moyes was more damaging than can be seen, which says something as on the surface it is already damning enough. The money that has been spent is great but to have expectations of a club that has no personality, no ethos, and no winning soul solely based on the fact that we have spent a lot of money to paper over cracks is silly. The post-Fergie years were going to be rough. It appears that they may be tougher than most here could have ever predicted.
You think Ferguson would be willing to come back as an interim until the end of the season if Guardiola was willing to take over then?
He would not want to risk tainting his legacy. Plus if he was successful we would be right back at square one with needing someone to immediately replace an institution.
Look Fergi was Man U, now we face a different challenge. We fiscally behind Siteh, Chelski, Barca, Real and Bayern. Those clubs used financial dark arts to make themselves unstoppable, we spent it on our owners debts. We have to accept we 6th ranked and in transition. We have to bid for players that we can afford. We have to re-develop our academy. Sir Alex papered over the cracks. He got max results from asquad that wasreally nottT epandan Academ hadn't produced a first team player in ages. We need patience in the rebuild before we become insane Liverfool fans. We have a top level coach with a great resume. Questioning him fine but he shouldn't be sacked.
We sold and loaned more than we brought in. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/transfers/verein/985
benni are you really going to point to Net Spend? Lets not become Arsenal fans. It is wrong to say we are fiscally behind all the clubs mentioned above. Apart from Real/Barca our revenue stream is ahead of everybody else's.
Nimma, having money and willing to spend itis another. First Benny's points and remember we are owned by thehorrible Glazers and Shieks or Oligarchs!
