So lets say I wanted to start a new MSI Classic team for the fall 08 season in Montgomery County Maryland. And I wanted to hire a professional coach. Where would I start looking?

    Thanks,
    Rick

The same way that you would hire any other service contractor like a gardner or a roofer for instance. I would use word of mouth with former customers or your friends or refs you know or coaches you respect, search the internet for ads, and contact local soccer related businesses (stores, rec centers & indoor arenas, about posting notices and asking for their recommendations). I would advertise in local papers only as a last result.

Posting here is a good start.

Contact local college coaches. Well connected with the soccer community, often have underpaid or volunteer assistant coaches who may be an option and usually run camps where they work with coaches from all levels. You can post on NCAA and NSCAA web sites as well.

    Thanks guys.
I think I should mention that this would be a U11 team. Keep the suggestions coming.

If you were slightly closer, you could call me.

Virtually all of the coaches I know and work with are out of Virginia but I will keep my eyes open for anything on your side of the river.

you want a coach (soemone at all games and practices) or a trainer (someone who'll be at practice with the team once or twice a week and delegate the rest) ?

And what are your aspirations here?

Because it will really affect how much you spend and where you're looking...

If you are looking at a u11 team, what are you considerations for a pro coach? Certainly , i wouldn't think you are looking to pay someone 80k to 120k a year? I coach u10g division3 and u12g division2 (pdp) here, I am from Belgium where I played from u5 to u14 for kaa gent, select. then i played high school in the us. I am a 2nd year coach and my u10 has already won a championship. I do it for the love of the game, not to be paid, I do not consider myself a pro coach, but am sure i could work a u11 team succesfully. No, i am not asking for a job, i like it here, it is nice and warm. just wanted to say you may want to look at other options like local leagues, you may be surprised to see who's coaching little johny's team
    good luck

Put an ad in the paper or on a website ask for certain qualifications as to what you want.
