Kids... I have seen the winter hat type you describe in various styles at Soccer Kicks in Wilson Blvd. Arlington VA. ps-Looking through my winter hats I found a non-fold black one with a new logo and three red stripes across the bottom.

Okay here's the 411 on the hat. They have two styles, they don't fold so your good there. I asked the girl at the merchandise stand how someone who can't get to the stadium can get one of these hats. She shrugged, she was clueless. So my suggestion is call DCU and tell them you want that hat that they sell in the merchandise stands at RFK. I would definitely describe it as a ski cap and not a beanie. I say this because I asked the girl for a beanie and she gave me a blank look, then I said ski cap and she said Oh, and showed me. So that's my report! Good luck to you.
I called it a beanie and the dude grabbed it for me. They were both $18. One is solid black with a big (relatively) logo in front and a smaller DC United on the back. I got this one The other one has a big thick red stripe going up the middle of it, but a smaller logo - I didn't see the back of this one... I thought about buying an extra one and sending it to you, but I can't even manage to send bills out in the mail, so I doubt you'd ever see it
