I tend to agree, as we have so few players who know their way to goal, but (people keep telling me that) in the modern game, the wide defenders are your difference-makers.
Especially given the fact that he scored one of our only three goals on the world's biggest stage. Almost had two, of course, and both were nice finishes. I want this guy playing farther up the pitch.
I just think Tim is excellent at playing without the ball. He makes intelligent runs and he's a good finisher.
I'm sure his coaches would consider it if Weah made a bigger fuss but Weah himself has said he doesn't want to play the position, oddly.
Weah coming on. I'm doing some cleaning but may update at the pbp if something exciting happens, fwiw.
LOSC @losclive Bafodé Diakité est remplacé par Tim Weah Angel est remplacé par André Gomes #LOSCSDR 1-1 I 84'
Finished 1-1, on Weah too late (84’). My tracker says Weah came on for RCB Diakite, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Weah played that position, though maybe he’s expanding his repertoire. The other 84’ substitution was a confusing A Gomes for A Gomes, Andre for Angel, presumably a like-for-like.
it's time.....he needs to go to a club that will play him and where he can play in andvanced role winger or striker.
Andre is a DM/CM who can play as a third CB. Angel is an AM. Andre came in at the same time as Weah, so they kept 3 at the back and Weah moved into the RWB spot, with Ounas moving to CM.
May be the biggest beneficiary of the WC among our guys, as it's really showing a disconnect between what Lille can get out of him vs. what the USA can get out of him. It's funny because David was shockingly bad for Canada and looked like the second coming of CJ Sapong. Meanwhile you see how Weah's pace and direct play can stretch teams and create chaos. Yet at Lille, David is the golden boy while Weah is wasted. I'm not one to blindly back our players, but in this case I think they're squandering him. Time to find a team that will let him play off the shoulder of the last man and dribble at defenders. We saw throughout WCQ and the WC itself that he's scary in that capacity. If I'm a team like Roma, Dortmund, or Fiorentina, I'm getting ready to click the bid button. Unleash this guy in a league that doesn't cope with pace well and he'll find a lot of joy.
Tim joined Lille on a free transfer but they paid a pretty penny to sign David from Gent. They have a real need to boost him for resale. Tim, not so much.
That's completely specious thinking. It's all revenue - doesn't matter the cost. Teams don't account on a per-player basis, but on the whole. If they can make more selling Tim and eating the cost on David, that's what they will do.
That's assuming people are logical and football people are more logical than average. Neither are true but, yes, I should have said "real psychological/placating the fanbase need"
