Moved banter from yesterdays news thread… Carry on full sized bed pillows?! I have trained my children to be able to travel for 3wks via carry on only…no pillows!
Visiting my brother in Utah. Just got back from a 7 mile hike up to the Woodlawn Mine. View attachment 244299
You've been back from Scotland for a while, so you are in the clear. They are not happy. We are shocked and desperately saddened to learn that the famous Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall has been felled overnight, in what appears to be an act of vandalism. We know just how much this iconic tree is loved locally, nationally and by everyone who has visited. We are… pic.twitter.com/QqLMhanzgC— National Trust (@nationaltrust) September 28, 2023 Seriously, what sort of asshole would do this? I hope they mete the appropriate justice.

Going to visit family in San Diego at the end of the month. Might go to Mexico for a bit if I can find my passport. Either way will beat this weather. Any fun shit to do? I’ll probably go back to stone but other than that no real plans. I wanna start a YouTube channel like this dude. Shame their season just ended
Last time I was in San Diego (2019), I took the light rail to the border to go to Tijuana for lunch and to walk around. I walked out onto the mile or so road to the City and thought better of it. I rarely feel "unsafe," but I did there. I was there for about 10 minutes and got in line to get back over the border. The line to get through customs and into Mexico took about 2 minutes; it took three hours to get back through the same building. Not fun, at least for me. There are a bunch of new brew pubs in San Diego, but none that really stood out. I am not a huge fan of Stone Brewery, but the pub was nice and, as I recall, the food was great. Have fun.
If I go do end up going to Mexico it would be with someone with citizenship in both countries originally from Mexico and married a San Diegan. Don’t they have like tsa preboard or something nowadays?
I will not bore you all with a slide presentation of my weekend getaway, but I will attach two You Tube drone videos of Natural Bridge, Kentucky state park and Red River Gorge geological area. Both are near Slade, Kentucky about 40 minutes south by southeast of Lexington. From Chicago that's 4:30 hours to Louisville and another 2 hours from there... Since one place is a Kentucky State Park and not a National Park it doesn't get the press it deserves although the gorge is in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Point is, I recommend a visit. There's camping of course (both camping grounds and back country rough camping permits), lots of cabin rentals with all modern conveniences, copious hiking trails both long and short to see many of the sites, kayaking, underground kayaking (yes really...through a cave system), zip lines, ATV tours, rock climbing in endless abundance, a very dated late 1970's lodge, some old motels, a lift to get up to the top of one attraction and both areas are right next to each other but the gorge is sprawling in size. I give it a solid two thumbs up. Red River Gorge geological area Natural Bridge State Park Cave kayaking. (I did not do this but I wouldn't want that gal yapping the entire time so...nah)
Currently watching Tunisia/Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations and remembering how I’ve been to each country. Go teams go!
Man I'm about to head out to work. Why do we put up with this bullshit when that's just out there all the time? I want a corona and to catch the metra and just sit on the platform below the planetarium for the rest of the day.
Went to Went to natural Bridge as a kid with my family. It was my first experience with the South. Barefoot in only overalls was the standard outfit and I heard a real Southern drawl for the first time as an aforementioned-ly dressed 10 year old yelled, "Hey Paw! Can I swim in the crick?" My family still quotes this to this day to ask if it's time to swim/bathe in any body of water. I loved it.
Just got back from Cancun - first beach vacation in years. I saw an array of soccer jerseys - mostlly Mexico and Mexican teams of course. Messi Argentina jerserys on kids - no Inter Miami jerseys, although they were available in the souvenir shops (I didn't buy one!)
What do you all think of this new FIFA tournament with the most random ass countries playing each other in other random ass countries? Azerbaijan vs Butan anyone?
