There was lots of gnashing of teeth about NYRB not being able to sign him up awhile back. Some thought he wasn't that far behind Jozy Altidore in 2006. Is he still with their youth club? Is he still showing the same potential he was then? Shouldn't he be able to sign soon given that he was on the youth team in 2006 I believe?

Hes actually considered the third best RBNY prospect right now behind Kassel and Walter Hines.

He's still with the Red Bulls YT. I think he has been capped by the Haitian NT, too(though I'm not sure).

They're all right there so we'll see Hines is the youngest of the bunch (I think excuse me for my ignorance if I'm wrong) so maybe one more year till he's signed up.

Any updates on what Johnny Exantus is up to these days? Is he still playing soccer?

It's a Wikipedia page, but he is listed on the rather large roster (36 players!) of the NYRB NPSL team.

I always had a hunch that he was just being used as a prop so that NYRB could try to change the youth signing rules to their benefit. I guess I don't know enough about him to know if that's true, but I think the whole Jonny X fantasy was swallowed whole by eager fans, towards a goal that just about everybody is happy with though. I also predict that NY will not use a homegrown slot for Kassel or Hines.

Thanks. How old is Exantus now? 21?

Is Kassel still a good prospect?

Good not great. I'd consider Larentowicz-level to be his ceiling, but that may be a little unfair since he was learning a new position (d-mid) last year.

Playing for the Ecuastars of the Garden State Soccer League?

It also looks like a striker on that team was (is?) a Hatian National Team forward and several other players are from Haiti. So I'd say that is your best bet for where he is now.

Who needs Exantus when there is Leo Stolz. Stolz is the future of NYRB.
