What's happening? Is everyone over at the KK thread in FCM? No Beat news other than birthdays?

The Beat and Freedom are having their October camp in Houston, TX.

Other than that there isn't much out there. I guess we could always discuss the play of Parlow and Scurry in the Scotland match or speculate on what is going to happen with the Beat players in next weekend's All-Star match.

    1.) Job Hunt
2.) Getting my ass kicked playing second row in rugby this fall. I think the parties are kicking my ass far more than the games though :D

Redcard: I am working, working a lot. Definately a lot harder that my job search here. Fortunately, I love what I do. However, since I am half a world away, I am relying on y'all for Beat news.

  8. Not that I post here nearly as much as the Mike Lanes, Ludahais and other wonderful veterans of this board, but I've enjoyed it immensely during the WUSA season.

I wore my new Beat/Parlow powder blue jersey to the Scotland match. I got there early, and was more or less in my own big huge area for a while *lol*, and Cindy waved at me (seemingly), perhaps in acknowledgement of what seemed to be the only Beat jersey in Le Stade Du Crew that day (I talked to Foudy after the match, who was ribbing me for wearing the wrong shirt *lol*. Nice woman she is, though).

Fun day that was, despite the atrocious heat and the sunburn that I'm still reeling from. No wonder our fearless warrior was subbed out after only 45 minutes or so. I'm amazed Foudy and Sobrero, whom I met, were so perky after the game! I was dyin' just trying to pay attention! lol

Oh well. Awesome memories. Especially being almost immediately behind Cindy as she scored her goal. I shant ever forget that.

I really need to go down to DC when they play the Beat next year. Maybe even meet P-Low next time around!

I'm kind of rambling off track, but just wanted to poke my head in and say Hi, and that I'm still here, cheering P-Low and the gang from Pittsburgh, PA.

I think I saw you there I was across from you in the first half, above the tunnel, wearing red (oh yeah, I totally stuck out . I also saw a breakers jersey running around. I'm glad you had a good time.

Do you make it down to any freedom games since you're only about 3 hours away?

  11. I've never been to DC, Maryland, or Virginia in my life, but I'm running out of excuses not to! :D DC can't be much further from the 'Burgh than Columbus is. Besides, as much as I'm first and foremost a Cindy Parlow fan, I do also like several players on the Freedom, like the Litttles, Abby, and Mia. I think it'd be a fun trip and I think I'll end up doing it next year.

What about West Nile Dr. Mike? What are you doing at the CDC to combat this?

Yeah, its about the same distance. I'd be in heaven if I lived in the burg, I'd be in DC for all the homegames, even maybe even head to villanova on occasion ;)

CDC has two major installations regarding arboviruses, one in Fort Collins Colorado, and one in Peurto Rico. West Nile is going to be like Eastern Equine Encephalitis... an episodic epidemic disease which will be with us forever now. There is no way you can really combat it. Avoid mosquitoes, make sure that your home doesn't have standing water where mosquitoes can breed, and then hope you get infected when you are young and vigorous, and become immune. Go to cdc.gov if you want more detail. BTW, has anyhone seen manycrows recently? Their population here seems to have crashed... they are an improtant amplification host for West Nile. We don't want ALL our birds to die, but a few less crows wouldn't hurt.

I was bummed when I wrote that. I had an "incident" with our head radiologist. In other words... he was an ass and being a lowly tech... i had to take it... but shot him very evil looks and seriously considered going back and adding words to the evil eye. My lead tech and director stopped me... warning that it would possibly mean my job .

I hate dealing with doctors sometimes (no offense, Mike)... they can be real pricks!!

I know one word that won't describe my career in the medical field... longevity!!

Bonnie...we need to get together and do some writing! Hell, if we can't find jobs to suit us, then we'll just make up our own!!!! Hey Dani! Take a course in computer animation and join our creative team. We'll get Piper and Mel to join the writing staff and we'll make a killing! Just like Mike Judge!

:sigh: *Goes and washes scrubs so they can get thrown up on tomorrow* :sighs again:

I think one thing that stops many of us that are employed and hate it is that...well in my case and I know in some others...is that we have no clue what we want to do and it's definately not the time (especially here in Idaho) to just up and leave a job and face an uncertain future. Well that and the fact that some of us pull in a pretty damn decent paycheck every two weeks. I've bitched about my damn job since being hired in January 1997. But then I look in my wallet and then I look out my window and I see absolutely nothing out there that can give me what I currently have. Ugh. To make matters worse my boss was telling me earlier this week that he hopes that I stick around for the long term. And seeing how I have no balls to leave...I'll probably stay there for another five years or so. :(

But yeah I'm getting to the point now where I want to take a flying leap head first outta my window.

Ya' know in the past two seasons we have bitched and moaned about the Beat's website. Now several of you actually know people on the Beat staff. Have any of you mentioned this to them?

It ain't just doctors.... it's anywhere where there is a hierarchy and you're not at the top. Hospitals just happen to be a common place for this behavior. Trust me, universities are worse. And despite the general bad-mouthing of government, government bureaucracies are not too bad.

Mike> Completely agree about those ivory tower university hierarchies. I was looking to go into that career path when I realized as a graduate student that while I love both teaching and doing research, the whole "publish or perish" and heirarchal nature of the University (Georgia specifically) totally turned me off to it as a career path.

As for government, I have had a mixed bag with that. Fulton County's government isn't all that bad. However, try dealing with the INS office in downtown Atlanta sometime!
