[IMG] Jon Conway - Toronto GK Coach. Looks like he stopped the performance enhancement supplements. :p

We still have a pair of Jon Conway signed gloves in our "trophy case". Pat Onstad used to call him "Big Jon". I thought this was funny, cause' from where I was standing, Pat was a pretty big dude himself!!

Had a chance to chat with him on Saturday. As approachable and congenial as ever. He even remembered my name...

Wasn’t there a rule named after Jeff Caesar that you can’t switch clubs in the same league in the same year or did they rewrite that?

Jimmy Conrad just checked out my son's Instagram, the latest of the "blue checks" -- my son was pretty excited.

Santa Cruz athletes test their limits in Eco-Challenge Fiji

Santa Cruz’s Brett Gravlin opened the email and his heart jumped: An invitation to apply for the World’s Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji.

He was accepted to compete in the inaugural Eco-Challenge, which aired in 2005, but the UC Santa Cruz student didn’t have a corporate sponsor and missed out.

He wasn’t letting this opportunity pass.

“I thought, ‘OK, who is crazy enough to do this with me?’ ” said Gravlin, who stays active in CrossFit and beach volleyball. “And the first person I thought of was Justin (Smith).”

Gravlin and Smith — both former swimmers for the NCAA Division III Banana Slugs — filled out their five-person team with Steven Lenhart, a former Santa Cruz resident who shined for the San Jose Earthquakes from 2011-16, and ultra-marathoner Jennifer Hemmen of Fair Oaks. Jeff Failers, a paramedic, was chosen as the assistant crew member.

Together, they formed “Team Curl” — they all have curly hair. And they were chosen and treated to a hair-raising experience at Eco-Challenge Fiji. They’re hoping it’s equally electrifying for the viewing audience.

The 10-episode series — produced by Bear Grylls, host of “Man vs. Wild,” and Mark Burnett, the executive producer of “Survivor” — airs Friday on Amazon Prime Video.

He showed in episode 3 for about 10 seconds. Never mentioned the Quakes (but did MLS) and lives in Long Beach now.

IIRC, he scored a goal in his first game with us (against LA, too). That's got to be worth something!

Creativity? Please. He was an average holding/d-mid at best when he arrived here, and the same player when he left.
