Boy - you could build an amazing team with the defenders we've given away over the past ten years...

For some reason, as it was when they were all on the team, had those defenders stayed around, I'm doubting results will have changed.

    Jahn became that good?

Why couldn’t he produce for the Quakes?

He was more productive for Columbus than he was for us. So maybe Berhalter was the difference?

He wasn't ready--too raw and undeveloped. He had a monster year in USL--remains to be seen if he can really produce in MLS. He improved in Columbus, but nothing spectacular.

he also played under Dom, who was very reluctant to play younger players, and our wings/fullbacks provided terrible service into the box.

We did not use him as well as we could have. Most of his supporting cast when he was with us blew chunks. Our coaching at that time was gagh. As with many young players that have come through our team, we beat the creativity out of him.

He’s just one more example of us drafting a decent player, and then wrecking him. Adam was way better for the Crewless than he ever was for us, and they played him as a lone striker atop a 4-5-1 (at least some of the time). The biggest knock on Adam actually is that he’s slow. Otherwise, he’s a decent player.

And good for Adam!! Great to see him have some success.

    Go Quakes!!

I know you guys don’t want to subscribe to the Athletic, but they had an interview with Simon Dawkins. He’s without a team right now and is practicing in the park, but hopes to come back to football. Anyhow, he says his failure in his 2nd stint with the Quakes was largely due to depression over his mother’s death from cancer, and the pressure of being brought back as a DP. I didn’t realize he had played with Beckham, Modric, and Adebayor at various times in his career.

I’m happy to see an article like this on the athletic.

Basically, he was lonely, injured, under pressure, dealing with depression (which looked obvious to me just watching as a fan), wracked with guilt for not spending more time with his mother, and he wasn’t getting help for any of this.

    No wonder his performance suffered.

I have no idea if the Quakes offer any therapeutic services but I suspect even if they did many athletes would not consider it due to stigma and misconceptions.

Anyway, hope the best for him, his soccer career, and his peace of mind.

We still talk about the goalkeeper clinic that Tim ran for our players and coaches back in the day (one of those years after the team went to Houston). His stories about weird keepers and their habits had us all rolling on the grass. Don't let your kids grow up to be keepers!

I have never met Tim in person but I remember he used to write analysis on one of the unofficial Quakes website back int he days. I always enjoyed reading it and learned more about the game from a different perspective.

Tim is a great guy and really, really smart. He'd have made a good head coach. Tim's columns on upcoming Quakes games and his analyses were spot on.

I'd love to see Tim have a lot more success and get a head coaching gig someday.

You can't stop Adam Jahn. You can only hope to contain him.
