I can see ditching Simon, but Dunivant has proven to be a good GM. Bad move that. Go Quakes!! F@#$ Sac!! - Mark
No inside scoop for you. I wish I was that connected. The press release stated, "With our 2019 season coming to a close, our focus is on preparing for next season, competing for the USL Cup, and continuing to build toward the bright future of this club.” You raise a good question about Dunivant. He's still around, as far as I know. Nagle posted on Reddit that he had asked Dunivant mid-season (AND I'M PARAPHRASING, BASED ON MY LOUSY MEMORY), "Would you have made the same roster decisions?" To which he says Dunivant replied "yes."
Had posted this in the academy thread by mistake.......Wasn't it both Brian Ching and Rico who had a disdain towards Quakes fans when the Dynamo returned to play the Quakes in San Jose in 2008?
What if San Diego Loyal SC eventually moves and becomes Los Angeles Loyal SC? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
"Landon Donovan named head coach of new USL team in San Diego" (Pro Soccer USA - Thursday, 11/14/19) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Heh, how about that.... according to league website: 33 Games played 32 starts 2890 minutes 17 goals 6 assists Not a bad clip.
On a Grant Wahl podcast, Landon said the reason they picked the name “Loyal” was because of focus groups with 500 San Diegans. One of the major issues was that fans didn’t want a team who was going to move somewhere else someday. So the club FO picked the name Loyal to promise that they will never change cities, that the whole purpose of the club is to serve San Diego fans. EDIT —- I wouldn’t say it’s a great name, cuz Loyal is kinda hard to say, especially if you are a Japanese native speaker.
Because no way could a team from San Diego ever move to become the Bakersfield Loyal or Ventura Loyal. If you want to show fealty to the city, why not choose a San Diego name? The San Diego SeaWorldians?
