The funny thing is that there now seems to be some kind of Gen Z / millennial interest in 80's / 90's tech. At least there is for my daughter and her boyfriend (I guess they are early Gen Z). Recently they bought an 80's / 90's CD mini stereo player made in Japan (pretty cool looking in an 80's / 90's retro way). And they're also even interested in cassette players, like Walkman. Why, when cassette tapes are horrible and break and hiss, and you have to fish around to find tracks? I do not know. Then there's this fascination with polaroid cameras and disposable cameras ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Why, when you can get much better photos with your phone and you don't have to reload film and develop it? Again, I do not know. Then of course there's the return of vinyl, which of course has been going on for a while. At least with vinyl vs. CD you are getting something different - you're getting analog sound, whereas CD's are just the digitial bit delivered to you in a different way relative to streaming. Only thing I can come up with is that there's a yearning for something tactile and special purpose vs. the phone that does everything for you via "virtual" interfaces.
My GenZ disagrees with all the above except for Polaroids. But I think a lot of people are fascinated by Polaroids -- even with all the sophisticated tech we have in 2025, there's something utterly cool about a photo magically appearing just a few seconds after being snapped.
Well, they are architects, so they like "stuff" and design of real things, etc. Here's the vintage Japanese little CD stereo system. I think it's pretty cool, and it does some kind of choreography when you eject a CD - I think the left panel slides up to reveal the CD slot and present the CD to you. I think that's a mini-DV slot in the center - a technology that never quite took off.
Man, that was an awkward landing. He's lucky he didn't injure his neck. Apparently he got a (deserved) yellow for simulation. Reminds me (kind of in the opposite way) of the Ricketts goal celebration handsprings Saturday night where he was so excited he went a bit too strong and almost lost his balance and face planted. I've seen him do that celebration before - he did it when he scored with The Town in the playoffs(?). I think he'll do it every time he scores.
Do we know how the others who left this offseason did on Matchday 1? I only know Jebo scored a nice goal to give LAFC the win.
Watching Seattle-RSL I wondered if Nathan was still on Seattle's roster. He isn't. He's playing for Cuiabá Esporte Clube (MT). Cuiabá is a small city way out in the boonies in western Brazil, not far from Bolivia. They are a 2nd division Brazilian club - he's going full circle.
This is how Jebo did so far with LAFC. Started 3 games out of 7 league games, no sub in those 4 games apparently, with 1 goal in first game. Took a total of 4 shots and 2 on target in 3 games he started. He did play 4 CONCACAF games with 2 start, 2 sub and 1 assist. LAFC right now is just barely behind us in the table.
He's been injured the past few weeks. But yeah, after starting the 1st game (and scoring), seems like he's fallen back in the depth chart.
When I watched Jebo play for LAFC it seemed like his role was different than it was for the Quakes. With the Quakes he'd venture well into midfield to help with build-up. He was good at it, but then not always there when you need him to be to score goals. With LAFC it looks like Cherundolo has him staying higher. Problem is, if you're a forward on LAFC you're not going to get the ball very much when Denis Bouanga is on the field.
It was great seeing Lewis, Agoos, and even Waldo at the game on Sunday. Nice to see Tom Linear with his health issues in the past couple of years. He was pretty shaky walking out. Lewis and Agoos looked like they could still play.

Hard to believe that's real. Great scouting job, Inter Miami. If you think Messi was pissed off after our game with Miami, wait until he has to play with Yarbrough and they're down 3-0 in the 10th minute because Yarbrough froze up on 3 shots. He looks like Marvel hero in that photo, but we didn't exactly see Marvel hero kinds of performances from him last year.
