Although I have some reservations about Ronald Reagan's policy, in particular towards Latin America, I still think he was a great leader. I would rank him second to Roosevelt as a 20th century American President. Roosevelt obviously faced greater challenges, with the great depression and WWII, so I'd put him at the top. How does Reagan rank in your estimation?
1) George Washington 2) Thomas Jefferson 3) Abraham Lincoln 4) Teddy Roosevelt 5) Dwight Eisenhower 6) Ronald Reagan 7) George Bush (II) 8) George Bush (I) 9) Richard Nixon 10) Gerald Ford and I like Madison but can't figure a place to put him! IntheNet
my apologies... I ranked all 43! my stupid! Ok...for "20th century", just list George W. Bush as No. #1! IntheNet
I think your definition of 20th Century is different from mine. I really don't know where I'd rank Reagan. Somewhere below FDR and JFK, but above Ford, Carter, GHW Bush, probably one notch above Clinton. Honestly, I don't know enough about pre-WWII presidents, Eidsenhower or LBJ, so let's just say he's in the Top 10.
George Walker Bush is the greatest American president of the 21st Century, obviously. He might even be the greatest president of the post-Clinton era, but only time will tell.
I think the hardest to rank is JFK, because of the unfortunate events which shortened his presidency. In his short time he had some spectacular successes, like the Cuban missile crisis resolution, and spectacular failures, like the Bay of Pigs invasion. (But he had better taste in women than some other presidents that we know.)
I give credit to JFK for: His handling of the Cuban missile crisis His kickstart of the space program, which was well behind the Soviets' at the start of the presidency. His handling of the Bay of Pigs aftermath Dropping the hammer on Marilyn Monroe I give demerits to JFK for: The Bay of Pigs itself Vietnam But you're right. JFK only had just over two and a half years in office before his was killed, not even one full term, not much longer than Gerald Ford, so he's hard to quantify. But he did much in that time.
1) FDR 2) Reagan 3) Clinton tie 4) T. Roosevelt tie 4) Wilson 6) Bush I 7) Truman 8) LBJ 9) JFK 10) Ike
