Suarez hits the 500-goal mark. what a player he is.

shame he's a total maniac, but my guess is you wouldn't have one without the other.

    https://www.espn.co.uk/football/blo...mily-and-donating-soccer-balls-to-youth-clubs

All active players with 500-plus goals for club and country
    1. Cristiano Ronaldo (aged 36):
    770 career goals.
    2. Lionel Messi (33): 732 goals
    3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (39): 564 goals
    4. Robert Lewandowski (32): 516 goals
    5. Luis Suarez (34): 500 goals

Suarez himself marked the occasion by pledging to donate 500 soccer balls to youth clubs in each of the cities where he has played during his career. He said: "I wanted to give back to the seven teams that have shaped me as football player. I wanted to give a boost to the youth teams in need of support and equipment to inspire them to follow their dreams."

The veteran striker also posted a message on social media to thank everybody who made his goal-laden passage from Montevideo to Madrid a possibility. In particular, Liverpool received a special mention with Suarez remembering his time at Anfield as one of the most important periods of his career.

"Liverpool was special. The connection with the fans inspired me to rise to the challenge of playing in such a competitive league," he said in the message posted in Spanish, English and Dutch.

There is a laugh, then a long pause as Andrea Dossena contemplates his answer. As a Liverpool player, in five glorious days, he took the roof off Anfield and silenced Old Trafford with the fourth goal in routs of Real Madrid and Manchester United, but deciding which was more enjoyable is tough.

“I think it is better to score at home in front of your supporters,” Dossena eventually says, looking back on those events of March 2009. “Obviously, the opposition supporters going home in silence is fantastic, too, especially as it was against Man U and everyone knows the rivalry between the two teams, but when you score you want to shout and see your supporters jumping. Not many players can say they have scored at Anfield for Liverpool in the Champions League against Real Madrid.”

Dossena scored only 11 goals in a career spanning 16 years, so it was a shock to many that almost a fifth of that total came in five days.

He was just so...slow and confused. It was hard to believe he came from such a technical league.

Brad Smith just scored his first ever goal for Seattle Sounders. It was his first goal since scoring against Exeter City while playing for Liverpool.

If he's a striker he'd fit right in with the current crop.

poor bugger, in the form of his life, nailed on to play for England in June, but can't catch a break....

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/56915800
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has said that striker Danny Ings may be out for the rest of the season.

Ings, 28, has not returned to training after suffering a hamstring injury in last week's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. Ings earned an England recall this season and was hoping to secure a place in Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2020, which begins on 11 June.

Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler is in talks with Swindon Town to be their next manager, BBC Radio Wiltshire understands.

Fowler, 46, is manager of East Bengal in the Indian Super League, where he was appointed last year.

The Robins, relegated from League One last month after one season, have confirmed caretaker manager Tommy Wright has left the club.

Lawler was a great rb back in the 60's who also always seemed able to pop up with a goal too. I hope it all works out for him.

I feel for him. I had bad hips too, compounded by jumping out of planes (usually landed on my head tho). I've had both replaced, its hell before you get the surgery.

Stevie is doing an OK job ....

It's more than two months since Rangers clinched their 55th Scottish league title, but Steven Gerrard's side play their final game of the season hunting further markers of their Premiership dominance.

The manager's call after Wednesday's clinical 3-0 win at Livingston was to create "a legacy" by establishing some new landmarks following Saturday's final game of the season at home to Aberdeen.

Rangers prepare to officially lift their first major trophy in a decade on Saturday, but what else can they achieve?

    • Reach the 100-point barrier with a draw - a feat the Ibrox club have never achieved and one last done when Brendan Rodgers' Celtic gathered 106 in 2016-17.
    • Become the first side to go an entire top-flight campaign unbeaten since Celtic that same season.
    • Win all 19 home league games in a season and become the first team to do so since Martin O'Neill's Celtic, who won 26 consecutively between 2002 and 2004.
    • Beat Celtic's clean-sheet record of 25 for a 38-game season (set in 2011-12) and match their city rivals' all-time record of 26, set in 1913-14.
    • Beat Celtic's achievement from that same season of only conceding 14 goals in a league campaign, with a clean sheet.
