Screaming obscene challenges to Sasha Kljestan's manhood from the comfort of your own living room then hearing that abuse broadcast to him live on television? By god, what a time to be alive.
The NBA will not be bringing all the teams. Only those within six games of a playoff berth for the 19-20 season will be invited. The owners will vote on the proposal on June 4 but it will surely pass.
So does MLB--but I'm not holding my breath. They all tend to act like two-year-olds over there (and I am speaking about both sides). One positive though--the Dropkick Murphy's streaming concert from Fenway last night. Mrs KG heard about it on the news, almost at the last minute. Her only disappointment is that she wanted one or two more songs from The Boss (he sat in for two songs via a remote link to Joisey). Wasn't in our original plans for the evening, but we're glad we took a chance on it.
The MLSPA just approved a plan which starts in Orlando June 24. They'll have two weeks of preseason followed by a three game World Cup type round Robin. The group leaders will advance to a knockout round and the others will go home. Max time frame six weeks. This was passed back to thee league who may agree or counter.
I was kicking around that idea myself in the MLS forums. I just didn't know how it was going to work, mathematically, with 26 teams.
They say that IF things are still improving Covid-wise, they will go back to playing regular season games. We'll see if the owners go along. Its a lot like their proposal but with fewer games
It won't affect the Crew but Acton extended a shutdown order for stadia through June. Is the Crew shop at the stadium open or not?
Really doesn't affect anything, IMHO, as I don't see any play in any major league in the US at home happening before mid-July.
Agreed about no Crew games at Mapfre in June. But I actually was asking if the store was open or not. Retail establishments are allowed to be open. But it's inside a stadium which is supposed to be closed. So how did Acton's disciples decide?
May be a team decision as much as anything. I'm not sure it would be worth staffing at the current time.
The store at Mapfre is not currently open. This was one of the few questions I asked the kid that called me to tell me I'll be able to have a conversation about New Stadium tickets soon.
Statement on the status of negotiations: pic.twitter.com/DesCGu9ymL— MLSPA (@MLSPA) June 1, 2020 The Twitter post states that MLS players have voted to extend the CBA by one year and agree to the summer tournament in Orlando. There's also various reductions to salaries and bonuses.
Since it's related to getting back to playing and if anyone wants to read more tea leaves... I saw on a local news crawl that many of the concerts which were scheduled for the Schottenstein Center and Nationwide Arena were being rescheduled for early 2021.
Looks a lot like it's not going to matter. If the players don't agree to the last proposal from the owners by Tuesday theyre going to lock them out. Goodbye 2020 https://www.espn.com/football/major...r-from-major-league-soccer-player-association
I hope and expect cooler heads to prevail. But I found this headline interesting. Baseball doesn't have to return, but neither do we I think all athletes and owners need to take this into account. They are not owed anything by fans--though they all tend to think and assume that they are (a notable exception to this were the players in the early days of MLS).
I agree, but in a larger sense killing the season because of Wuhan flu issues seems to me like a whole different thing a labor-dispute lockout. The ramifications are unknowable but possibly disastrous. Losing a season due to something uncontrollable is sad but somewhat understandable. People can see the sense, even if they disagree with the conclusion. Losing a season due to union/management squabbling would really do some damage to everything thats been built over the last 25 years. And the bitterness, as we've seen in other sports, never goes away. But it doesnt look like the owners are bluffing here. Take it or leave it is not an offer, its an ultimatum. EDIT: The players have reportedly caved, and the Orlando Tournament is officialy on.
