You know, those “Italians” were mostly all American major leaguers with Italian heritage.

 

So this year we could have Italy beating the US in “world baseball” and the US beating Italy in World Cup soccer?

 

So we’re supposed to be less excited?

The USMNT have been using foreign born players for as long as I remember.


In looking at Italy's roster, the players are mostly Italian-American and have MLB experience but that's ok...

San Jose-born Beita played in the World Cup for Iran.

But Italians have to play by different rules, I guess.

 

I remember and attended Brazil vs. United States at Stanford Stadium at the 1994 World Cup and the USMNT started 5 players who born outside the US along with a 6th sub.
