Niners are a good team but riddled with key injuries. They can still win out down the stretch and grab the division. Gonna need Bosa back, though.
I don’t think the Niners will have ever beaten the Bills under normal conditions as they are clearly hurting and Buffalo is the better team but I don’t see how fair it is to play a football game in a blistering snow storm. The game was totally unbalanced and the snow clearly hindered San Francisco. Sports like baseball , basketball and hockey are never played in the snow. Even soccer many times, games are postponed if the weather gets that bad. I've seen many games rescheduled if the ball can't flow. I know it costs money but even hot weather teams like Dallas, LA and Las Vegas now have roofs so why can’t Buffalo , Green Bay , Detroit , and others do the same? Considering the amount of TV revenue the NFL brings in or in this day and age, I think it’s about time.
Ironically, the elements favored the Niners -- had McCaffrey not been injured and they stuck to their running game. They were gashing the Bills with it early on.
Although Mason is also really good and had some good gashes. The problem is that the Bills also started gashing on the ground with some huge runs. And Purdy is not a good bad weather QB, and Allen is. And then the fumbling began.
Wow. So you only want your Prima Donna 9er's to play in "good" weather, yet all the other teams have to play it as it is? Typical
Typical? Are you serious? How can that game have been fair on any planet? That wasn't even a game it was a schoolyard , snowball fight. What about Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and even Soccer? Are those sports and athletes prima donnas? The NFL is a national institution and a top sport and with the amount of money in that league, I can’t believe these teams are still playing under such horrible conditions in 2024. I’ve seen many soccer games postponed because of similar weather and I don’t think it’s fair for either team to play in that severe type of weather. For starters, you risk injuries as we’ve seen last night but it can also lead to deaths. So what happens when someone dies as a result of this severe weather? Remember Damar Hamlin who initially suffered a cardiac arrest and his heartbeat was restored on-field and you honestly think it can't happen again in those conditions? Will he have been considered a prima donna if he died? I don’t get your reasoning.
That quote from Marv Levy was 30-34 years ago and it was a different time. Look at what has happened to the NFL and how the league has evolved since then! The Raiders moved from LA to Oakland to Las Vegas and a shiny brand-new domed stadium. There is a team in Jacksonville, Carolina, a new team in Cleveland, Baltimore, Houston and another one in Tennessee. The league is now playing games in London, Mexico and Brazil. Also, each team is playing in a billion + dollar stadium. Heck who would have thought then or in 1994 that the Niners would be playing in Santa Clara?
This thing popped up on my facebook feed I think it was. Had to take a look - thought it might be amusing. A Perfect Weekend In San Jose They actually did a pretty good job with it, and Quakes and Bay FC got a mention.
A vibrant downtown San Jose? At SJSU or on Santa Clara Street? I was just down there on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year and it was totally dead.
Exactly and therefore, that article is misleading because there is virtually no retail, foot traffic, or even night life. What does retail therapy even mean? The bottom line is, San Jose does not have a vibrant downtown and they haven't had one for as long as I remember. I do recall when I was in college or in the late 80's and early 90's a lot of night clubs like Paradise Beach , DB Coopers , The Oasis , San Jose Live and the FX club but none of them lasted more than 6-7 years. I think they were all closed by 1996 or 97.
The "retail" thing is listed towards the end - it's about Santana Row. But read the piece. They aren't making stuff up about downtown. It's not Manhattan, but you could in fact have a great weekend downtown w/o leaving it. If you stayed for example in the historic Westin at 1st and San Carlos, all within a block, you could walk across the street to Christmas In The Park, go ice skating at Downtown Ice, visit the Tech Museum or the Musuem of Modern Art. Heading south to SoFA, again, all within a block, you could catch the symphony or Nutracker at the beautiful restored California Theater, have a bite at the SoFA market, catch some blues, salsa, R&B or jazz at Mama Kin, or, heading back up towards the park, catch a musical at the Montgomery Theater, or a concert at the San Jose Civic Auditorium, etc. Then heading north, you can catch mass at the historic Saint Joseph Cathedral, grap a bite at one of the many restaurants, and hear some live music at San Pedro Square Market, take in a Sharks game, visit the downtown Brit, etc. All of this is within easy, easy walking distance, most of it within one block. Brought to you by the San Jose Downtown Association
Christmas In The Park, ice skating at Downtown Ice and the Enchant at PPP only lasts a month. They ruined Saint Joseph Cathedral when they did their remodel in the late 1980's. No one I know cares about those those attractions. I've been here mostly my own life and even though SJ is my hometown , it's downtown has and will always suck.
Covid lockdown crushed San Jose's downtown. There are rings of hell and levels of suck, and downtown has descended into a deeper suckitude over the past five years.
Most people I know would rather hang out in Los Gatos, Campbell , or even Willow Glen as opposed to boring dowtown San Jose.
That piece is about people visiting from out of town. All of those things I listed - the museums, concert and theater venues, sporting venues, restaurants, places to hear music, still hold. And there are other things at the park like SJ Summerfest and convention center thoughout the year like ComicCon and Fanime, etc.
Still , even for tourists , many of those events are limited and there simply isn’t much to do on year around basis or even 10 out of 12 months. San Jose is my home and I love living here but the bottom line is there is virtually no city life downtown.
Workingman's Emporium moved from downtown San Jose to Gilroy within the past year. A real loss which I bemoaned this past weekend while looking for my annual long underwear purchase. Bass Pro Shop, Kohls and Target didn't have the traditional long johns I want. Workingman's Emporium always did. I ordered some from Amazon and if they aren't right, I'll make the trek to garlic town. Guy at the Emporium told me last year when I was buying my long underwear that City of San Jose is terrible to work with and they had had enough with the crime and the homeless downtown and would be gone in the new year.
With a few exceptions all the things I listed are going year around. If you don’t like museums, concert venues, theater venues, sporting venues, pubs, and restaurants, and you prefer Macy’s and Mrs. Field’s cookies then I guess downtown is not for you.
You sound like the Chamber of Commerce. The San Jose art museum sucks. I visited their store this past weekend prior to a haircut downtown. Used to have a wall of art books for sale. Gone. No art posters, anymore. Real deterioration since the '90s. '90s era San Jose art museum posters in my guestroom.
