2-0-0. The San Francisco 49ers survived a defensive slugfest to end up winning at the Philadelphia Eagles. Next up: the Home Opener against the Green Bay Packers on NBC's Sunday Night Football. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I kept seeing this building from Highway 101 now and then and recently had to visit one of its neighboring stores, so I finally got a chance to take its picture. I unfortunately haven't had time to visit the inside of this store yet, but hope to soon. What's fascinating (for me, at least) is that it not only shows the San Jose Earthquakes logo alongside the rest of the Bay Area pro sports team logos* at all, but shows it in the same size and with seemingly equal footing with them. 25 years after hosting the MLS Inaugural Game, one would think that something like this wouldn't be so unusual anymore among the general Bay Area sporting and general conciousness, but it unfortunately still is (though it has improved somewhat over time). In any case, it's so cool to see at least one place visually representing all five of my favorite pro teams (also listed in my current tagline) equally, at least outside the building. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G * Yes, I realize that the Raiders are no longer in the Bay Area (or even in our state, for that matter), but there's still likely a sizeable enough amount of Raiders fans in the Bay Area to justify keeping the logo up.
Coincidentally, I dropped by that store recently for card sleeves before a recent game. (Gave a Cade Cowell Arteaga’s card to his grandmother.) The card store by the Shark Tank is no more.
This is the fourth time in the San Francisco era that the Giants have won at least 100 games (they've won 103 games in both 1962 and 1993, and 100 games in 2003). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
@Goodsport Niners are wearing their throwback 1994 iuniforms.... 2021 49ers '94 Red Throwback Jerseys – 49ers.com
And those 1994 uniforms were, in turn, throwbacks to the team's 1957 uniforms (made to celebrate the NFL's then-75th anniversary). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Why are the Niners using rotating QB's? I don't think I've ever seen that in the NFL since Bill Walsh did it by putting in Joe Montana to replace Steve DeBerg it in 1980. At that time, the reason then if I recall was because he was grooming Joe so he could start. In today’s NFL though, the defenses are way too sophisticated and will probably end up figuring it out.
The Niners used Kaepernick as gadget QB when he was a rookie and Alex Smith the starter, circa 2011-12, before Kaepernick displaced Smith mid-2012.
Other than the run to the run to the Super Bowl where they lost, that whole Kaepernick scenario didn’t end so well. Neither for the team or the player. With all the injuries, is there any chance the team will bring back Frank Gore?
Calm down, Falvo. I think Lance took two or three snaps - which hardly qualifies as "rotating QBs". The first appearance was a designed bootleg that worked very well, after Garoppolo had failed on two passing attempts. The second I recall was a pass for minimal yardage.
But in both cases, it was a limited role for Lance - basically a guest star in very specific situations. Given that Jimmy G. has shown a really poor sense of body awareness (i.e. where he is in relation to rushing defenders) and is not reliable running the ball, I anticipate that (as long as the 49ers continue to have a winning record) we will likely only see Lance in those situations were having a QB better at thinking on his feet is necessary (e.g. third and three in critical circumstances like last night at the end of the first half). I really can't fault Shanahan for using all the tools in his kit. If he hadn't subbed in Lance for that ONE PLAY at the end of the first half, the score at halftime would have been a discouraging 17-0. It was smart coaching. BYW - my daughter calls Jimmy G "a beautiful idiot"...
She's probably right on the "beautiful" part but I don't think he quite qualifies as an "idiot"! That's a little harsh. I see him as kinda like a B+ QB. Good enough to win a Super Bowl? Yeah, probably. He came really close. But not good enough to kind of "lead" a team to one the way Aaron Rodgers has.
I'm so old that I remember that, particularly the home win against the New Orleans Saints that ended up being the largest comeback in NFL history at the time, one that cemented in Bill Walsh's mind that Joe Montana was ready for the starting role and that Steve DeBerg was to be traded in the following offseason.
