...where are the Metro goals going to come from? Do you think that the tandem of McGee and Wolyniek can produce? I don't! So what would you think about moving Amado up front, and slipping Galvan into his position, or is Guevara to important in the play making position to mess with?
-------- We have major problems in the weeks a head. At keeper, at center back and up top. Amando has to stay at mid, it is a lot easier to get shots off from mid then it is at striker. He does have to step up and score from the shots he gets in games. He has not done that yet. Galvan might be given a shot at up top. Mcgee should start at the other up top position. We need to get a goal or two from Clark moving from mid as well. He has not scored as yet off his shots. As far as the keeper goes we better get someone fast. We won't win with Grafer. We need to do something to cover the hole that Pope leaves. Arena did pretty well, but over the whole game? I guess we will see if Arena can do it for the whole game in the next game. Is the Argentina back a wing back or a center back?
I should have clearified, by gone I meant during his time with the national team, although as was pointed out during the broadcast on Sat. night, he will be free to conduct talks with other leagues after July 1.
Moreno better take the cortasone shot and get back on the field. Leave Guaverra where he is no one else can fill that spot. Sign another keeper, anyone which has been rumored will be fine. Pray Kenny A. will continue to improve and stay healthy and let's see what the other Argentine can do.
Although Arena replaced Pope last night, I am expecting Forchetti to fill that role for Pope's extended absence. Does anyone know why he didn't make the trip to C'bus?
i think the best thing to do when the trio is out in france is to have either addo or kenny arena battle out for pope's position, then jolley in the same place, ziade in left back, and lets try out forchetti in right back then in mid lets have digi on left, then galvan and clark controlling the mid, and then have richie wander around doing the dirty work , and have el lobo and magee up top, as far as for the goalie situation, lets just have faith in the pants....
I heard O'Neil and Celtic ar very interested in Mathis..Tommy Smyth said that may be his last chance of going to Europe...he really messed himself up during the WCup..
Galavan is an attacking player......certainly, A-League options abound as well. We will have some cap room as well with Howard leaving, perhaps we get a Central American forward for 100k or so....... Don't worry about center back, least of our concerns, Forcetti can play back there. We will play fine, other teams will be in bad shape too (Chicago will be losing Beasley and Bocanegra, New England is without Twellman, etc.)
come on dude, he messed himself up at WC time...the Mohawk the benching etc , he screwed up his chance to go to Munich...
I dont know what games you are watching but Mathis wasnt 100% fit at the World Cup, everyone knows that. Whether thats because of injury or laziness is another story. But when he played, he did his job. Also, him not starting was also tactical, Bruce never had the same lineup twice in the World Cup.
Smart man, Father Ted. You did kick the bishop up the arse, didn't you? BTW, Mathis was unlucky not to have had four goals in the World Cup,a s well as a couple more assists. Against Poland, his deft chip just goes inches over the bar and he beats the keeper and defense only to be denied by the post. In the Germany match, only a slidding Fringes stops a blistering rug burner that Kahn may or may not have saved, and Tony Sanneh should have buried that cross into the back of Kahn's net, so yeah, Mathis had a sucky Cup(yeah right), more unlucky.
Keep Geuvara at C mid and place Galvan at forward is probably best option as Amado is too important where he is. I say try Forchetti in the middle of the Defense with Joley and give it a chance. Ziadie is much better at right back than switching him to left as we tried earlier. Keep Ziadie where he is. Keep Wolyniak on the bench along with Addo as i don't think they are answers here short or long term. Maybe Arena stays at one of the c back positions if Forchetti is shaky.
The question really isn't, "is mathis good enough?" The real question is, is he disciplined enough to stay in shape and come to full form which i still think he isn't. He just seems very lazy sometimes on the field and doesn't seem to put forth the effort. For his sake and for the sake of US soccer...i hope he realizes that he has a great opportunity to showcase his talent at the confed. cup (which by the way is meaningless) and gets his but in shape....not MLS shape, but world class shape.
We need a striker. And I don't mean just when Mathis is gone. Our defense is pretty good and our midfield is decent, but we need someone besides Mathis who can be dangerous. Here's what we have now: Clint Mathis - He's not really a striker but he's the only one we can rely on every game to put the ball in the back of the net and that's not enough. Mike Magee - He's fine off the bench, late in the game when defenders are tired, but he's no starter. He's still wet behind the ears and it shows. His lack of experience is evidenced by the fact that he only scores when it's relatively easy. With the keeper in front of him, he'll always try to slam it into the keeper instead of trying to put a classy move on him. Will he ever have that touch? Who knows? Only experience will tell the tale but as of now, he's no major threat. To his credit, he does work hard though. John Wolyniec - This guy is a tough MF (and I don't mean midfielder). But again, no class and not a real threat to score. Then again, he never has scored for Metro. He's another one who's good coming in late in the game when defenders are tired. Jaime Moreno - The Jaime of 3 or 4 years ago would have been exactly what we need. And I don't know if his current injury really has been going on since the start but he has shown very little in terms of being a scoring threat. In any case, the Metro curse lives with him. We always have damaged goods every season and usually for the entire season. Another Ramos/Balboa/etc.? We'll see, but so far, he's not the answer by any means. Now I don't give a sh!t if we get a poacher type like Savarese in his heyday or a classy type but we need someone who is a threat every game to pair up with Clint if we ever want to get to the next level. Otherwise we have to hope that the defense can blank opposing teams every game and that's not something to live on. Especially not when our key players are gone.
[sarcasm]A striker that puts the ball in the net in every game? That's not good enough for me either![/sarcasm] Someone please explain to me why having a player who finds the back of the net every single game is a bad thing? Yeah we need more depth in the forward position, but we have more than a few offensive minded players. Galvan, Guevara, Clark to name a few.
Let the speculation begin.... Per Ives in yesterdays Herald News: http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTYzODY3OTImeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
Part of the problem is that we need to get an occasional goal from the midfield. I love the defensive organization and shape of the mids, but they haven't really chipped in with goals yet. I think it will come. Guevara will see more of tha ball, Galvan is slowly working his way into the team, Clark has shown he has the ability (and with Pope out, I think Clark will be more of a target for corners and free kicks), and even Williams has taken some from distance. They just need to score on some of them now.
Did anyone say it's bad? That wasn't my point, read what you quoted. I said it wasn't enough. When Mathis is healthy, opposing teams can focus on and double-team him because he's the dangerous man. When he's not healthy and can't play or is out for national team duty, there's no one else who's reliable. All you need to do is see how many goals Metros have scored so far this season and note it won't scare anyone. But picture another dangerous striker paired with Mathis and then picture how opposing teams would need to cope with that situation. I think you would then see Metros competing with KC for number of goals scored and you could then say Metros have moved up at least one more level, which was really my point in the first place.
I don't really think we have a weak midfield. Amado Guevara is supposed to be the guy you're referring to. But I think he's not clicking yet with the forwards because the whole issue is still a work in progress. A few more games and as I said, hopefully another dangerous forward and we might see something really good up top, fed by the midfield.
