OK, it's now a week past the alleged-date when MLS rosters were supposed to be formally submitted. Players have been cut - waived, released, sent home - others signed, some the Developmental Contracts, and there are some new faces on teams and yet no new or updated rosters on the league's official site. Apparently we fans - or, at the very least, I - care more about this than MLS thinks we do. But, if they don't care enough to update the rosters - I mean, c'mon, it's been a full week, they don't have time for this? - then why should we care about the dates and deadlines that they submit as supposedly having some meaning? Maybe they prefer this information vacum, but I would rather the league be much more proactive in releasing information.
Shouldn't you be emailing the MLSnet webmaster about this, instead of posting here, where no one can do anything about it?
Another problem with this is that the "official" fantasy game players don't get updated until the MLS rosters do. So you still can't put Zizi Roberts (for example) on your fantasy team
I just sent my second note about this to them at SportingNews.com. It has been weeks since they updated the rosters. Hopefully they will at least give us a week before the first game with final team rosters, so we don't get stuck with players no longer playing for any MLS team. Randy Overbeck
thanks, randy. i've be waiting forever to put hey-dude on my team. and jasonma, i would definitely rethink putting Zizi on yours, according to all rapid reports, Zizi has be a disappointment thus far. BTW, randy are you related to karla overbeck of our WNT?
Nope, just the same last name. I want to at least switch my goalkeeper choice as my last one (Jon Conway) won't be playing for awhile. Randy Overbeck
Re: Re: When is MLS gonna get around to updating the rosters? I'm not planning to (any more) but I'm still searching for him as an indicator that the rosters have been updated.
OK, now this is getting ridiculous. The season starts in just over 48 hours, it's 2 1/2 weeks since rosters were supposed to made official, teams have added players in the past couple weeks and dropped others and the MLS website STILL HASN'T UPDATED THE ROSTERS. Geez, WTF? How hard can this be? I know they've had a lot going on with Garber's press conference, the Fox news and now the HDNet stuff, but c'mon, updating the rosters shouldn't take that much time!
Agreed Sandon - I totally agree. I've tried to keep the rosters up to date in the postseason based on OFFICIAL information released by teams - http://ibiblio.org/pdolan/mls.txt - but it's still severely lacking in many respects. I'm a roster nut - I love being able to guess lineups before each match and second-guess coaching substitution decisions - but it's tough to do this w/ MLS. Much easier to follow the rosters for the NBA, for example. I also have contacted MLSNET and each team about my concerns. - PJD
You'd literally never, ever know it from reading the finished product, but for my preview I went to individual websites to find updated rosters. They're all far more up to date than on the league site.
Re: Agreed The rosters look pretty up-to-date. However, they don't reflect the fact that many of this year's draft picks have been released. The Burn, for instance, released David Comfort, Mike Tranchilla, and Michael Mariscalco (per the 3/12/03 Dallas Burn Weekly Update). Also, the Burn did not pick up the option year on Jorge Rodriguez' contract.
