No Claudio We just interviewed Brice Arena on Word Soccer Weekly this morning and he indicated that Reyna won't be a selctions at all for him this year. You can hear the interview on the WSW website, on the home page. He also mentioned that he's calling up Steve Cherondulo. Nick
I imagine we'll call up our strongest squad possible for the Gold Cup being as it is in the summer. With a Copa America berth at steak we'll need our best players.
I heard that BA would call in the euros for Japan....maybe I am wrong, but they probably need at least one friendly in them before them before the summer.... -PB20
One of the best things about Bruce as our coach as opposed to some that went before him, is that he doesn't needlessly call in players for meaningless matches. Scares me to death that we might return to a USSF appointment like Rongen or Clive Charles rather than an experienced coach who understands the place of national team soccer in the players career.
this wednesday, when we play jamaica, is an FIFA international friendly date. i thought i remember reading when the match was announced that it was promised to the jamaica FA by the USSF that some of our european players would be invited in for the match... i guess stevie c. counts as one of our euro players
Who from our Euros should be called? Lewis, McBride, Kirovski, Gibbs(?), Keller, Friedel? Anyone else?
The Japan match is a good opportunity if Bruce wants to call in some Euros. The premier league is mostly done on Saturday, Mar 22 (although McBride plays the 23rd, Keller the 24th) and doesn't restart until April 5th. March 29 is a Euro 2004 qualifying date in Europe so my guess is most players will be returning to their homelands during this time. Of course, since the game's in Seattle, it might be a bit harsh with all the extra time zones. I'd look for the big guns come late May / early June in a run up to Confed. Cup.
