happen to attendance for the LA games (home and away)? You probably heard the news by now... The news (not rumor) is that Real Madrid told Beckham to decide his future in a week, and LA made the offer. If Beckham comes to LA what do you think will happen to attendance? Refer to the Poll.
The part about RM telling him to decide has been widely reported in all the credible sources.. As far as the 9 millon USD per year offer from the Galaxy, it's only appeared on one blog at this point unless someone can find it elsewhere.. As far as it being a reliable blog.. Well until someone else picks it up it will remain in the rumor category.. Could very well be true but.. The blog also stated he likely would come in June on a free.. That makes me wonder a bit as RM would surely want him to go somewhere that would pay a transfer especially if the reports are true that say they want him out in January.. In my opinion, to answer your question, all Galaxy home matches will sell-out for at least the 1st 2/3rds of the season, if not all, and at least a 10-15k bump in the big stadiums and sell-outs in the SSSs for away matches..
If Beckham were really determined to to let his contract run out with RM and sign with MLS on a free, I'm not sure what RM can do about it. Real Madrid can't force him to agree to personal terms with another club during this break.
I choose option 5: The "David Beckham Forum" will be the most frequented on BS. All Becks, all the time. In fact, it just might morph into its own site: BigBeckham.com 'Course... 33.7% of the traffic will be ppl looking for a gay porn site...
it'll be just like the freddy affect, except a bit more pronounced and prolonged. i wouldn't be surprised if they sold out nearly every game his first season, but after that, it'll be back to normal. unless he has some sort of affair with britney spears. this is exactly the reason why i think a four year guaranteed contract is a big mistake, but its probably the only way that LA could get him.
You should change the question to : When people will realize that Beckham sucks, what do you think will happen to attendance ???
Krayzie, Beckham does not "suck"as you put it. He's a fine player with almost a hundred England caps, most of which were earned as captain. He's scored a number of game saving and winning goals for his national team and his club teams those two minnows of the game Manchester United and Real Madrid. He's one of the greatest crosses of a ball the game has ever seen. He also happens to work bloody hard which is something even many of his fans don't appreciate. All that's before we even mention his media profile. I will agree he's not the player he was, but he'd still do very well in MLS and he would draw interest in the league like probably no other player on Earth. Now, please take your anti-English poison away.
Beckham is perfect for MLS. He can be a marketing whore while he still plays some pretty damn good soccer. He'll score 8-10 goals and have 10+ assists and sell tickets.
He isn't the player that he used to be..The difference in usa is that people play the game verses go to the games alot. I predict that people who play the game but don't follow it might go once to see beckam but if he doesn't appear to be that awesome will not come back.
i am curious to find out the length of his contract. None of the news has mentioned how long they would be signing him for. If beckham comes to MLS and likes it and has a contract for 2 or 3 years he will most likely never leave but instead settle down in the US and maybe become a manager, investor, or some other integral part to the us game. The thing I like about this whole beckham thing is that it does not feel like some ol' fart trying to make some extra bucks in the middle east or in japan. Regardless of attendance imagine merchandise sales and all this talk about MLS and beckham has already given TONS of exposure of MLS to the rest of the world.
