Can anyone tell me why the Telemundo Saturday and Sunday 11:00 sports show has no MLS highlights except occassionally the goal of the week which is of the MLS ?

Has Andre Cantor given up on soccer in the US or is it higher than him ?

No, I know the MLS foolishly asked for a licensing fee for Telemundo to keep MLS games instead of going from buying time to free, but does that affect their news coverage.

They want US friendlies and qualifiers but no MLS even in the sports news. I do not understand this.

The US, made up of many MLS players, did well in the World Cup. Also, the MLS, especially with the new foreign player rule and getting more locally, has quite a few Hispanics and obvious Hispanic names. Almost every team has anywhere from 25% to as much as 50% but still no interest.

Univision which also had its problems with MLS, does show highlights in its sports show(s).

I would email or write them , but my abililty to write Spanish is horrible. If I sent it in English, would they completely discount me because they would not care ?

Does any one know or understand what is going on there ?

i think mls didn't want to pay for more games on tv, plus they didn't like losing out on more paying customers because of the needed early time slot, meaning no night game and larger crowd

but i'm sure someone else will come along and give a better answer than i

Telemundo doesnt cover it cause just like the "english" speaking population in the USA the "spanish" populations doesnt give a rats ass about MLS either.

The local Telemundo affiliate in Los Angeles always shows highlights during their 11 pm news & on the local sports show Sunday afternoon "Marcador Final".

When MLS first debut, the ratings for many MLS match ups were better than the Mexican league on Univision. Yes, I know and attendance used to be better too , but that show there was some interest.

There are more Hispanic players in the league. Univision shows the highlights at the network level. In DC, the United gets enough coverage but I am talking about the network.

I do not expect them to show the games but to show no highlights.

If it were all about interest, then why would Univision show any highlights unless there is some interest. They do not even have a team in Miami anymore and they still show some highlights.

WAS, WAS SOME interest. Once they saw what a circus it really is they all left. Only the ones who are willing to stick it out or have nothing better to do have stayed. And thats not much.

It really doesnt matter how many hispanic players you have. The US NATS have had hispanic players on it for years no one has cared about the team since this WC. And still I doubt 3/4 of the people do. It only matters if you have hispanic player with NAME, not players made in MLS but players who were stars in their country. MLS doesn't have any foreign "stars" the only ones close are Valderrama and Cienfuegos.

There are more popular games being played like the local Am. Football, basketball, and baseball team, all which have more popularity among hispanics than any MLS team in any MLS city.

Because A) They either have nothing to show or B) It was an interesting match up that drew lots of attention.

They are going to show MLS highlights SOMETIMES, just like they show LaCrosse highlights SOMETIMES.

lets not get mad at telemundo, after all they have the rights to the u.s national team games in spanish and the womens nt as well. So if one of the games doesnt get shown in english speaking channels you have telemundo so we are guaranteed to see lots of u.s nt games!

I having a hard time figuring out whether to describe you as

    1) A complete MORON!
    2) A Troll
    or
    3) A complete Idiot!

    I think I will go with a combination of 1 and 2....

In any case, I have nominated your post for the stupidest post of the year... rumor is that you will win hands down...

It is unfortunate that MLS couldn't work out a deal for it's games to be on spanish network. If nothing else the games put MLS on the netwerk, in those hispanic homes who like soccer, giving them exposure and a good chance some of those watching might attend a game or two . The words are AWARNESS and EXPOSURE . I think MLS is going to be back but with Univision next year.

Go ahead then be a sucka and keep hiding from the truth instead of trying to work on whats wrong. Its the same blindsided tactics that Nick S does to drive the Metro down the toilet.

Im flattered that you have nominated my post and I hope you and your pedophile friends have fun in your little awards ceremony.

I think you made some good points in your previous post. I do not agree with everything and thing that some of them are a little bit to harsh or critical, but in now way stupid.

You seem to have some thoughts or analysis about driving the league or Metros down. Care to share any ?

MLS needs to stop asking for licensing until the ratings can back it up. Unfortunately they still need exposure. I can see why they do not want to pay for time anymore but they need the pub.

What problem do you have with what he said? Why don't you give some examples of where he was "trolling" or being an "idiot." I'd like to see just how far up your arse your head really is.

You are speaking for yourself right?. I'm part of that Spanish population and I can tell you that I care about the MLS more than any other league in the world. There goes your theory.

I guess some people expected every Hispanic man, woman, and child to go to every MLS game. The ratings on Univision were much higher for MLS than ESPN. The % of MLS fans in the Hispanic community is far higher than in the non-Hispanic. If the rest of the country cared as much about MLS as Hispanics do, MLS would be at least as big as the NHL.

And I can also tell you that before this year I only missed 3 Metro games since '96, been to a ton of away games, made flags, sang songs, beat drums, and if it wasnt for the fact that I got tossed from Giants Stadium I wouldnt have missed any games this year. And guess what Im hispanic.

My theory still stands because Im talking about MOST, not the exceptions.

And also dont confuse "knowing about MLS" to "caring about MLS". SOme dudes might say, "The Metro vs LA game was good last night" but that doesn't mean that they actually will go to a game or watch another one or even really care about it. Is it a start? Yes. But lets not kid ourselves that it deserves coverage because a small few of us follow it.

So if only 3% of hispanics(not factual number) and only 2% of rest of groups cared its much better cause only 3% care. PUHLEASE. Next.

Re: Re: What's Up with Telemundo & MLS ?

Metrocarzon, sorry to hear about your problems. I seen a lot on these boards about the way the stadium staff treats things that may not really be bad or dangerous behavior.

Do you think in any way it's just the stadium or is it the Metorstarts admin too ?

The reason I ask, I know the Stadium Authority and the Metrostars are not on the best terms. The Metros think they are not getting a good deal as far as money , scheduling, or service and have been making plans to have a stadium of their own. This has only made the situation worse.
Do you think the Authority is trying to destroy or disrupt the Metro base ?

With the success of USA soccer and the friction between the stadia in NY and LA and their wanting, and even getting successful club mathces from Europe, Mexico, and occassionally S. America, there has been even more friction with the stadia wanting US and other non MLS club matches they feel that MLS and US Soccer are blocking in some anti-competitive stance. They do not care that US Soccer has been enhanced by MLS and would not be as an attractive match-up for Brazil and others. This situation could blow apart the whole federation and FIFA arrangement as LA & NY authorities are threatening legal action over the control of MLS & US Soccer for non MLS games.

Once again these idiots do not realize there is a collective and governing situation needing for sports, not just individual entities and competition.

Any way, how about DC U showing well in England ?! I show wish the World Club Championships had not been cancelled so we could have seen the MLS on the world stage against the best.

By the way, the NY/NJ Authority say that if the Metros worked with them more, they could be more successful but the Metros want to do it their own way.

Any truth to this or are they just blowing smoke now because the relationship has gone sour ?

I know this is a rant and seemingly not related to the thread, but given the comments, I believe there is a tie into all of this.

Re: Re: Re: What's Up with Telemundo & MLS ?

I think it had something to do with me getting into an altercation.

The rest of the stuff is too much to explain, if someone wants to go ahead do so. But its been talked about to infinity on other boards and even this one. So Im not going to go thru that again. Its like going to the old relegation/promotion issue.

To put it to you in simple terms its all politics and in NJ no one does anything unless they get something back.

We have to understand that TV is a business. It's too complicated to explain. Let me try. Telemundo gets nothing when they talk or promote European soccer. They get nothing when they talk about Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, etc.... Why they do it? Well, it helps to talk about different leagues around the world. Especially the good ones. Why they dont talk about Major League Soccer. MLS is a potential sponsor of Telemundo. If they show a weekly summary of MLS for free, they will be losing. IF they show nothing, they are forcing MLS to buy into it. Got it?
