Although I've heard bits of speculation and rumor about interest from abroad for Clint Mathis' services, I never saw anything in print. Reviewing an article from PlanetFootball seems to indicate the probability of Mathis moving abroad at the end of the season. Anyone care to shed some light on this? Or is it all just rumor still?????

His fantastic run of late coupled with his soon to expire MLS contract seems to help feed into this buzz.

I'm sure a club will take a chance on him, especially since there will be no transfer fees involved.

The question is whether he wants to go to second or third tier team in Europe or be a star in MLS.

Hes somewhat reliable. From my memory he's not the only one talking about Clint going to Europe. If you look at the situation practically though, the time is now (the end of the season) for him to go over there. He can leave on a free, and go over there when he still has some good years left in him.

This isn't a Bergin rumor, it's common knowledge that Clint wants to try to obtain a European contract after this season when his contract with MLS ends. Whether he can get a deal that pays better and is more attractive than what MLS offers remains to be seen.

its just the way he blends rumor with fact. i really doubt that mathis will be going anywhere nlesshe has an excellend season this time around, maybe a very good Confed Cup and/or Gold Cup.

I don't remember where, but I vaguely remember hearing this Celtic rumor myself. Another poster, Dark Night, commented that "Whether he can get a deal that pays better and is more attractive than what MLS offers remains to be seen.". This sounds like Clint is looking for a European club, and may be desperate to find one, as opposed to a club looking to acquire him.

Is this the general consensus? That Clint needs to try and make the move now before he gets too old? Not that he's a teenager but he's only 25 I think, right? Also, missing so much MLS time, it is going to be hard to judge whether or not he has an outstanding year by the numbers. Will he be watched at the Confederations Cup?

Personally, I think where ever he ends up, he has to be a starter. He seems to be regaining his playmaking skills, I think mainly attributed to his fitness level increasing again, and I love to watch him strike the ball. It has to be a place where he can continue to fine tune his finishing skills.
