The most popular around the world would have to be Real Madrid, and most people would say it's the best team with the best players. As to why is not well ahead in la liga, that's something only the greek gods can explain. Maybe they should get rid of the offside, that would allow the Real players to score more goals.
Newcastle Barcelona Palermo Torino Werder Bremen Arsenal is not a favorite team, but I do enjoy watching them play. Don't follow any of the other leagues closely enough to care. Edit: care right now. Used to watch the Dutch game when FSW carried it. Back then I suppose I was an Ajax fan, but that was only because I hated PSV and Feyenoord. Even with Beasely, I can't bring myself to root for PSV.
Umm, because their defense sucks Chef's salty chocolate balls and half the teams in MLS have better keepers. Money can buy you a lot, but if you don't spend any of it on defenders it won't buy you any silverware.
I think they won't be complaining as much once Real Madrid gets in top form and wins the Champions League.
Why would this team be your fav ...by far? It has never won anything. PSG on the other hand... now that's a team
I do believe Real Madrid and Man U to the most "popular" clubs in the world and Bayern Munich to be the most popular in Germany, but Borussia Dortmund has the largest # fan followers - 0ver 80,000 fans fill up the Westfalen Stadium for any given game when they play in Dortmund!!!
Is there any world poll out there that proves any one team is the most popular? I believe this two clubs are extremely popular around the world, but that's just a hunch! Where is Schalke in all of this? is it at least #2?
Not to sure about a poll, but world sales will tell you that Man U and Real M jerseys are sold everywhere and these teams make a crapload of money on this. Plus they make summer tours to Asia and America and sell out stadiums so easily...that is probably enough. If you live in South America or Europe you are guaranteed to see some one with these jerseys on. Regarding Shalke, they are not #2. Germany has Bayern for the German people. If you are German and like football then you probably either like Bayern or hate them, there is no real in between. Regarding the rest of the teams, it's much more regional. Most fans are home based. I would probably put Dortmund at a close number 2 or any German team that is doing well in Europe for Germans. If your not German, it's usually Bayern and then you probably (not always though) want the German teams to lose. Myself? I am a die hard BvB fan!!! Even through the hellish times they are going through now.
So, would the following ranking be accurate? Would most Germans agree with this: 1. Bayern Munich 2. Dortmund 3. Schalke?
Since we're on this topic of popularity, I'd like to know what are the most popular teams in each respective country. This is what I have based on intuition/talking to other people, etc, and not on any hard core evidence: For Italy: 1. Juventus 2. Milan 3. Inter Spain: 1. Real Madrid 2. Barcelona 3. Valencia/Atletico Madrid? England: 1. Man. United 2. Arsenal 3. Liverpool? Holland: 1. Ajax 2. PSV 3. Feyenoord Portugal: 1. Porto? 2.Benfica? 3.Sporting? France: ????? (if I had to guess: Marseille, PSG, Lyon) Scotland: 1. Celtic 2. Rangers Please correct me where appropriate. I recently noticed that in South America they use polls to determine who the most popular teams are. Do they do the same in Europe?
I would actually say 1. Bayern 2. BVB Dortmund 3. Whatever team is currently doing well in Europe. Not Schalke. Their fan base is regional and not nationwide. Dortmund became more famous during the 90's because it gave anti Bayern Fans an option of a German team to cheer for that. Cris
Being an American and not having the chance to attend many European matches, the teams I cheer are those with any USMNT on their team. Man City, Fulham, PSV Eindhoven, etc., but just can't cheer on the Man U despite Howard being their keeper. And also FC Koeln, Bundelsliga 2... my wife is from there and got to see a match last year before they were regulated to the next division under.
According to this list: http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/2004/aveeur.htm it's : Olympique de Marseille, PSG, Lens, Olympique Lyonnais, Nantes, Bordeaux, etc. Saint-Etienne is nowhere to be found
