Miles Joseph was waived I think, and then signed by the Crew. The Crew later waived him. Brian Kelly was traded to the Galaxy in 2000 for Roy Myers, and then waived later that season by the Galaxy. AJ Wood played for DC in 2000.

And no, Jolley doesn't do the flip throw-in.

guy you gotta get your stories straight. Jolley does in fact do the flip throw-in, whenever he has the room to.

Miles Joseph--Traded to Columbus for a 2nd round pick in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft on May 3rd, 2000.

Brian Kelly--Traded to Los Angeles Galaxy for Roy Myers on May 19th, 2000.

AJ Wood--Traded to the Columbus Crew in exchange for Brian Bliss on July 8th, 1997.

    Rob Johnson--Waived on April 19th, 1997.
Played a few games in 1999 under Bora.

Antony DeAvila--Not picked up for the 1998 season.

Rhett Harty--Waived by the team in 1998. Then retired promotly after that.

Jolly can do flip throws but not normaly.

Jolley does do Flip Throws on occasion as I saw him do it about 3 times last year.

I read somewhere that AJ Wood got into the fetish porn industry after he 'retired'.

Brian Kelly works with a buddy of mine at one of the big brokerage houses downtown. He's probably making 6 times what he was making in MLS by now.

Kelly went to Duke. He probably comes from an affluent background and was able to stick around MLS because he was willing to take a low salary. I think Grafer is also in that category.

For those who cannot afford to chase their soccer dream or afford to get a college education, it's get a job after high school and attend the school of hard knocks. US soccer must lose many potential stars because of that.

    "DAMIEN SILVERA!"

That kid had some skills played in long island Junior soccer league if my memory serves me right.

Why didn't he make it with the Metrostars? This is just my opinion he prefered always to make his first pass horizontal (east/west) or back (south) instead of looking first for the through pass. He really slowed down our attack whenever he touched the ball.

He was even annoying to watch because he always did that, any body remember him doing that with the Metrostars?

    Where is he now?

    No idea.

Isn't MLS a job? Are that many guys who have the potential to be national team stars really not getting college scholarships of attention from MLS scouts?

I know the ODP system can cost money, and thus biases toward those with money. But high school is free, and if you're playing that well for a high school team, you'll get noticed. If you aren't playing well enough for some sort of organized team to get noticed, I'm not convinced you'll be good enough. And there's still opportunities in minor leagues, open tryouts, and the like, that don't necessarily require the "ability to stick around with the low salary." An 18 year-old with a high school diploma, no experience, and limited skills, will have a hard time making a lot more than MLS minimum wage anyway at first.

So what does that work out to, $60,000 a year? $70?

You are right about Long Island. I believe he went to college at Virginia. The last I know is that he tried out with the Kansas City Wizards in 1997 and was cut.

Damian Silvera was traded to Kansas City in exchange for Mike Sorber.

Silvera was built up and was a mediocre player. However, he buckled under all the pressure, lost his cool when cut from KC and went to UVA and raised some hell for the hype. He now lives with his sister in NY.

I'm going off topic but, what does this mean?

Do you really think there parents are supplementing their income? and do you believe just because they went to Duke and William and Mary that their parents are loaded to the point of 'paying' their kids (who are in their lates 20's) to 'follow a dream'...I don't buy it......I think that this is the career path they choose and they have adjusted to the salary they are given.......pretty much like everyone else out there in the world.

Kelly probably is making more now than he did when he was playing.....he still got to play a game for a couple of extra years.....can't take that experience away.

If I recall correctly, he bounced around the A-League for awhile. I seem to remember him playing for Hershey.

I always liked "Machine Gun" Kelly. The guy would run all night. His finishing and crossing needed some work, but he always put forth a lot of effort. Sort of a poor man's Frankie Hedjuk.....

Miles Joseph was supposed to be a stud. He had some nice moments in the Red & Black, but just never panned out. Hope that doesn't happen to any of the Big 3 from this years crop......

I checked the trophy cabinet and since there was nothing there I didn't know any "good old days" existed for the MetroStars

Antony De Avila went to play for Barcelona of Ecuador in 1998 and helped lead them to 2nd place in that year's Copa Libertadores (lost the final to Brasil's Vasco da Gama). I believe he played one more year at Barcelona and subsequently retired from the sport.

Last I heard,.....Brian Kelly now plays for NY Athletic Club with ex-Princeton standout Andre paris and ex-UVA standout Andy Shapowal.

Damien Silvera was an excellent college player and deserved all the attention. Unfortunately for the Metros he didn't make the transition to the pros. I heard he had a nervous breakdown. I hope he is well.

Andre Parris was a sweet college player. I was always surprised he never got a sniff in the pro ranks.

NY Athletic club are not very competive in the CSL this year are they? the greek team is in first place and NY Albanians are doing better.

If he just would have looked up field first when he touched the ball he would have been fine.

Former Metro Saul Martinez is still playing in case anyone cares. He's hooked up with the Honduran national team and he scored a goal yesterday against some side called Argentina(?).

Saul Martinez never played for the Metros. He played for the Roughriders, and his one MLS year was spent with the Fusion, where he was pure crap, other than the one game vs the Metros when he scored his only two goals.
