I say with new players and new coach we'll hit 20k. I go with 20,500. I think the KC matinee will improve our avg over a normal wed. night game. Anyone else?
If they're good and get off to a fast start (which may be the key), let's shoot for 25. Most home games are Saturday nights 7:30. Help or hurt?
every year someone predicts just over 20K, someone else predicts 30K, and another person laughs at them and says it won't reach 15K. really though, who cares. i'm going to the games, and what matters to me is that I'm there.
You really can't predict what kind of average they're going to be able to pull out of a season. It all depends on what kind of gimmicks they are going to use to pad the numbers, such as double headers, etc. I really think that as a business, they should be shooting for a 20k average without doubleheaders....and try to raise that number by a thousand or so every year....
I SAY OPENING DAY MIGHT BE IN THE 25 K.... IF IT IS A NICE AND STEAMY NIGHT... ALSO IF THE METROS. PROMOTE THIS GAME RIGHT....
12,000 for real. 18,500 announced. Nothing to be ashamed of when compared to most other leagues in the world. Looks like a funeral, however, in the Swamp. Go to the matches and judge for yourself re: the difference between real and announced figures.
Every year we get this same post......announced numbers are in every sport......last night at the Atlanta Hawks game they announced 9600.....apparently, some reporters did an actually count....3200.... All leagues do it.....christ, the Knicks were still announcing sellouts with half the place empty....
Yes and no. In baseball for instance, the American League counts tickets sold (so you can have a sellout and only 1 person show), and the National League counts people actually at the turnstiles. No idea what method MLS uses, if any. But it has been shown that Nick in the past in Tampa and here has inflated the number of tickets sold and the number of people showing up. That is a no-no.
agreed.....they shouldn't inflate ticket sales....but, if they are going on tickets sold...than I have no real problem with differences in announced and actual... Does anyone know what formula MLS uses for attendance?
Agreed. We all can say GS is a shithole and no one wants to be there. So all I care about is tickets sold to keep this league going as most of its revenue is from ticket sales.
So, your point is what? That MLS should adopt schlocky practices used and discredited in other leagues? I do not know about the Hawks, but the Knicks were announcing sellouts after buying the 1000 - 1200 unsold tickets earlier this year. Are you suggesting that the Metros are buying the unsold tickets that make up the obvious difference between actual and announced attendance? Rather than post "we see the same posts year after year", you should wonder why that is. Your real issue seems to be whether this thread should be about the real attendance or the announced figures. I'll start it off - I think that there will be an average of 12,000 in "real attendance" and an average of 18,000 in "announced attendance". It's amazing that they have anyone interested these days after the cumulative nonsense of the past 7 years.
Actually, my real issue is why this is always such a big f-ing deal...... I don't care if they want to say 50 people showed up or 50 thousand... out of curiousity, I wouldn't mind knowing what numbers they do use though...I just assumed its tickets sold.
i can honestly predict an honest 25,000 average for this season... reasons include that the metros dont have alot of july games cause of a 5-game road trip,, so ppl away on vacation can come back late august and go to the late season games after attending all the april may and june games
It all depends on whether or not Mathis is healthy - and that's the bottom line because M...F...O SAID SO!
If anyone remembers, last year was the first year the nets did actual attendance at the game and they started off the year averaging like 6k a game. Years prior they would announce crowds of 14-15 k even though it was normally half of that. All leagues do this practice. MLS probably does it for credibility in the media reasons.
