Advertise how and where? In New York? At the prevailing rates? If they get 5k paid attendance they still won't be able to afford to "advertise and market" in New York.
I was born and raised on Long Island, and I remember going to more than a few Apollo games in the mid seventies, and if my memory served, the Apollo could usually count on getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 to 2500 per games. However, the New York Nationals (a short-lived half assed operation that played in the original United Soccer League-a spin off of the ASL) used to draw somewhere around 500 or so per game. I felt bad for Jim McGeough, who was the Nationals player-coach. The nut job owner saddled him with a bunch of Greeks, most of which didn't speak a lick of English and didn't have a hell of a lot of talent. The only reason I went because my guy Michael Collins was playing for them (the only name player the team had).
why would he buy this club? It's like buying nothing. There is nothing to buy... a crappy logo? There are no fans, there is no stadium. There is no point. If beckham is interested in NY...it wouldn't be FCNY.. I could see him maybe latching onto this Cosmos thing, but not much else.
How do the other minor league teams around there (Staten Island, Brooklyn) do it? If they are going to be based in Long Island, aren't there some smaller papers and radio stations that don't charge an arm and a leg for ad space/time? How much does it cost to slap an ad on the side of a bus or on a train? It doesn't take a full-page spread in the NYT or the Post to get the word out. It costs a lot in ATL too, but people still do it (the Ruckus/Silverbacks even did it...a few times).
who cares where these muts are going off for holiday..... the BB have lost intrest in this amature night at the apollo.... every one is more focused on the situation with the NY Cosmos.... these cats are more serious and quiet about things... they are about to open their new office in manhattan and are already miles ahead of fcny....
*yawn* if i was doug peterson, i'd be worrying about the fact the Cosmos just opened an office in Manhattan.
lol....exchanging money for european kits. I'm surprised FCNY has a kit to exchange? considering Dougie said they'd have them for sale this past christmas.
rather than what is the average attendence this CRAP will get it should be renamed HOW LONG WILL THIS CRAP FCNY LAST B-4 IT CLOSES UP SHOP.... FCNY threads are a waste of internet space...
I don't remember seeing United at Shea, but I'll do you one better here... ...when I was 8, I once spent a half hour talking with Paul Kitson while my cousin (who took me to all the matches) went to go "hang out" with Redmond Lane somewhere. The following week, my cousin and her friend were 'hanging out" with Redmond AND John Lane. Yes...that is EXACTLY what I mean.
