So much for the talk of championship runs and this being "the year" for the MetroStars.

...the blame for 2002's pitiful ending can be split a thousand ways.

Jan. 11: Acquiring damaged goods - Balboa
Feb. 10: Draft day panic - Kamler
    March: No Des deal
    March: Formation fiasco
    March: Armband error
April 14: Zambrano skips Tab send off
    Sept. 14: Mathis sees red

...Zambrano is on shakier ground, but those fans that want Zambrano's head on a platter should not forget that it was he who helped the Metros recover from the embarrassment of the 1999 season by leading them to consecutive playoff appearances.

He deserves one more season, but if 2003 looks anything like 2002, Zambrano should and will be out of a job faster than you can say Bora Milutinovic.

    actually a great article....

except his assessment of hernandez and that oz deserves another chance.....i agree with just about everything....

oz, seriously must go. not just for his tactical and coaching decisions, but for the psychological effect it will have on the remaining players.....

Ives has always been on-point with his articles.

I know this is not a popular opinion, but I have always thought it was a bad move to trade Hernandez. He always stood up OZ and the team and wanted to be with the Metros. He's also one of the best long distance strikers I've ever seen this year in the MLS. What did we get in return for this "block-buster trade? Chrono (ich!).

Well, we did get Williams too.....I would still make that trade straight up for those two.

hernandez was a decent mls player...nothing more or less.... i always felt that when he took his free kicks....he just hit it as hard as he could and saw where the ball ended up...

anyway...my dislike for hernandez was the ego that arrived this year ...suddenly, he was talking crap, shirt was always hanging out, corn rows, etc.... it was like he was playing a game in the hood rather than playing for a pro soccer team (yeah, yeah, i know)...

now he's in new england and he seems to have gone back to the old hernandez....but then again, with rooney on your team, its hard to get away with the crap he got away with here.

    Fantastic article.

I remember at the start of the season, I couldn't believe that we would have Mathis, Serna and rookie of the year Faria up front, Balboa in the center and Ramos on the wing with Timmy in the net. I didn't think we could loose...

The article is actually from the Herald News. Which is mainly a Paterson-Passaic-Clifton newspaper. The Record owns the Herald. They share alot of articles unfortunately not Ives'.

People are always mixing up Ives as being a Record reporter, which is why people can make the silly statement that the Record covers soccer well. Anyone who sees the Record on a regular basis knows better.
