Just a guess, but with the media hype that this U-17 team is now receiving, I would think there is at least a decent chance we could see English Language broadcasts of the U-17 WC here in the States for the first time. If anyone has any suggestions on what the masses here at BS could do to make this happen, post em here.

I think if FSW saw enough demand for the product, they might pick it up, letters to Mark Cuban probably wouldn't hurt either. ESPN, I think is probably a long shot at this point. But hey, if they can put so much into the Little League World Series, who says they wouldn't be up for the U-17 WC?

You would think that Telemundo or Uninvision would use their SAP to broadcast in English.

They can't do that because they don't own the English language rights.

The U-17 team is playing in the Dallas Cup next month. Fox Sports World televised the finals of the Super Group last year and is listed as a sponser again.

FSW should make an effort to televise all the USA U-17 games. The USSF needs to make this happen as well.

Freddy will be on the U17s for a few more months at the most. Then he will go to the U23 for the Olympics, and then the full side for WC qualifying.

And lets be serious, for the most part, if it wasn't for the kid, we would be content to get our U17 results from ussoccer.com.

Fox Sports World does show the games--on a tape delay basis.

I can live with that... the time differential will have those Finland games mid-afternoon here on the West coast and I'd rather see the matches during primetime - when I can see them and am not at work!

    I'll be in Finland.

    I"ve done live pbp before

I make a point to know all about the team.

They wouldn't have to pay me a dime - just use my voice over a feed that is surely available.

It wouldn't take much to make it happen, would it?

The folks at FSW must be beside themselves with joy over their good fortune.

FSW will NOT show the finals in Finland. They don't have the rights. Galavision owns the Spanish rights and they will likely be the only source of these games.

Now, FSW could still introduce Freddy Adu to the American soccer public by televising all the USNT U-17 games from the Dallas Cup next month. They're listed as a sponsor at the Dallas Cup site. They will probably show the finals as they did last year.

However, the US U-17 will likely struggle against the older competition (83s) in this tournament, so it's probable we will not make it to the final. FSW needs to televise the group games featuring the USA and all other games should the U-17 advance.

I sent them an email, so I hope they at least consider this plan.

Trouble with the 83s? You obviously think you're dealing with mortal 86s. LOL.

U-17 will romp to Dallas Cup title.

Wonder what the rights would cost? Perhaps SUM and St. Phil would consider getting these games on tape delay and working with FSW instead of only Mickey Mouse networks. Can you imagine Rob Stone and Ty Keough calling the u-17 WC? God save us all... Maybe we should start a fund ... the "English Language U-17 WC Rights" ... or maybe we can talk a PPV outlet into showing it...

As I understand it there are usually the Spanish broadcast rights and the English broadcast rights. Wouldn't Galavision having the Spanish rights not affect the English ones which if not tied to any company would still be available? Why wouldn't they still be looking for a buyer? This sounds like it would be a great deal for FSW considering the national attention that Adu is getting. You might get some general sports fans that are interested just to see if they think he is really 13.

Tape delay on FSW has been anywhere from a few hours to, more likely, 2 days to a week. Longer tape delays are usually used for live PPV broadcasts, but I don't imagine the games will be same day delay because that isn't the usual pattern.

Do we even know if Galavision is broadcasing live? They very well may put the games on delay to get them in prime time.

I agree that FSW really should consider a plan to put the U-17s on in some form as much as possible. In addition to Adu, who would obviously attact the most interest, you have Spector and the MLS signees that many soccer fans will be eager to see.

Yes, FSW could still buy the English rights to show the U-17 games. I'm just not real confident that they will buy them, when Galavision already plans to show these games.

Now, FSW has shown some of Galavision's stuff on tape delay over the past few years. This included the 2002 Gold Cup and the U-17/U-20 qualifiers in 2001.

But, FSW didn't show any of the FIFA properties that were televised by Galavision/Univision (Confederations Cup in '01, U-17 WC in '01, U-20 WC '01, World Cup '02).

The Dallas Cup seems to be the perfect venue to test the popularity of the U-17 team. If the Dallas Cup games pulled in acceptable ratings, then maybe FSW would consider purchasing the U-17 WC rights.

That wasn't true for the 1999 U-17 team ala Donovan, Beasely and Convey. I doubt this year's version will fair much better. Two years can make a huge difference for a teenager, especially when that is two years of pro development and besides the Dallas Cup Super Group is looking pretty tough this year.

why do you care whether it's in English or not???

Seriously, most of our commentators are useless and there's nothing you'll learn from them. The video feed would be the same and that's all that matters. Watch the game, don't worry about what's being said. We all can understand "tiro de esquina" and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL ADUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Well.... what about kidnap Anna Kurnikova

Well... Is a crazy idea, but his way she will not have that space on USA SPORTS MEDIA and all this time could be dedicated to a USA BORN SOCCER PLAYER on a athletic endeavor......

whip, your hatred of anna kournikova is appreciated! but maybe instead of tennis we can convert her to soccer, and if she's half as bad at soccer as she is at tennis then we can let her play for DC and milk the publicity for our benefit! :)
