supposedly Pablo will be playing for the Rapids, and either Stewart or Convey may be playing for DC.

Tim Howard and perhaps Mathis may be playing for NY/NJ.

Does anyone know if there's a certain time by which they have to announce player status? Compulsive gamblers want to know.

"The coaching staff is expected to decide by Thursday which MLS players will be released for the upcoming matches this weekend."

    I found this on ussoccer.com:

Hope it was what you were looking for.

    fill in the blanks...

Well, at least based on Euros plus inactive MLS teams, your starting point, with the noted [blanks] to be filled in:

    .................Cannon[1]

    ...Dolo...Gibbs[2]..Berhalter...Vanney

    ......................[3]

    ............[4]...............Lewis

    ......................[5]

    .........Twellman....Kirovski

    Notes:
[1] or Hahnemann, if you prefer
[2] I know he's left-sided, but it wouldn't hurt to see if he can cover this spot because he may need to play there at some point in France
[3] pick one of Mastro or Armas to keep in camp and let the other play on Sat
[4][5] pick two mids to keep in camp

It's actually something of a good exercise, as the US will be playing every other day in the first round of the Confeds, plus maybe two more games, so most of these guys will likey play at some point.

Well- we know that, at the most, 18 will dress for the NZ match- so at least 5 from the roster will be released. Best guesses:

    1. Donovan
    2. Howard- (Cannon and Hahennman each likely get a half)
    3. Stewart- (DC struggling badly- plus he's a known quanity to Bruce)
    4. Califf?- (LA opening new stadium- plus they need a win badly)
5.Mastro? (Again- team struggling- plus Bruce may want to give Armas a long look coming back- and it balances out releasing Califf to LA)

I think Mathis should stay- would love to see him pump in a few against NZ to help his scoring touch carry over to the Nats.

I think this is rediculous. Maybe the friendly was a dumb idea, but the decision was made.

Now you're going to pick and choose who gets to go play for the club side? Can't a fan cry foul if his home side doesnt get any players back, but the team coming to play at his stadium has players let go to come play against his club? I sure as hell know I'll be pissed if Klein gets kept in camp and Mathis and/or Howard come to KC to play us.

I'd think the same would go for any other fan as well. We all knew, inlcuding all the MLS clubs, that the Confed Cup and its preceeding camp was coming in early June. The teams had to have a good idea of which players would be selected given recent friendlies, so there were no real surprises there.

So get over it, use your reserves, and keep the Nats in camp.

I think Yallop had a fair enough argument for getting Landon back, given SJ's injury situation, but that seems to have opened a big can o'worms.

If SJ's injury situation helped get Landon back I sure hope Andrulis makes the same case for the Crew getting at either Martino or Cunny back for the weekend.

Yes, thats about the only exception I saw fit. But like you said, the can of worms was opened. Now you have others, like hangthad, that think if another team gets help just cause they have injuries why shouldnt my team?

Thats why I say no one goes home. Reports are that 18 are staying put for the NZ game. That leaves five to go home. The only one I would guarantee is LD Yallop was the first to ask because of SJ injuries. The other four I'd consider a toss up.

SJ may have a good case for keeping Landon, but they're only losing 1 player.

What about a team like Chicago with 3 Nats gone. We've still got 2 guys recovering from injury and 1 out of country dealing with family problems. So right now, Chicago only has 13 field players available for the game.

Fortunately for us, DCU is pretty much in the same boat -- missing 3 guys between the 2 US Nats and Nelson for NZ -- plus they have a couple injuries in Etch and Quaranta -- although Etch is listed as probable. I don't know for sure what that leaves them with but it looks to me like they still have 15 field players available.

Yeah, but San Jose only has about 11 field players available - and that's including Landon. They lost one field player to U18 callup too.

According to today's Dispatch Cunningham and Hejduk will be released for Columbus while Martino stays. Also, Oughton is away with New Zealand's squad.

I would guess more than 5 will be released as the 5 guys scheduled to play in DC (six counting Nelsen) will probably do both games.

According to US Soccer web site today:

    The list of released players:

    Bobby Convey (D.C. United),
    DaMarcus Beasley (Chicago Fire),
    Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids),
    Jeff Cunningham (Columbus Crew),
    Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew),
    Dan Califf (Los Angeles Galaxy),
    Tim Howard (MetroStars),
    Clint Mathis (MetroStars).

LD will also be available for SJE. As he never "showed up" he's not on the "released" list.

    Gotta link?

As I predicted, someone is going to cry foul. I'm that someone.

This sucks. Metros get two of their stars and we dont get Klein back. Seems fair...

    Thanks sljohn.
I am surprised that Bocanegra was not released given his value to Chicago and the depth of defenders we have from the foreign contingent.

I am dissappointed that Convey was released rather than Stewart since I would like to get Convey as many international games as possible at center mid. Do we get to see Martino there instead? Convey could still show up on sunday given that he is a young man compared to Stewart who would have already blown his load for the weekend if he played on staurday.

Hmmmm... so either you don't believe me or you're too lazy to look it up... or maybe even both! ;)

Oh, well, I'm always open to boosting my post count... :)

Here's the link. It's about half way down in the article.
