Surely, you jest. Give Ring the start? Over Zach? Yes, the past few games, Zach has let in some soft goals - but his saves make up for it. It has been a very long season for the Fire and I am sure that takes its toll and puts more pressure on Zach. The Fire's problems are not in the defense.
Re: Re: What to do with Zach Thorton Alright, I was upset and drunk last night so I made a stupid mistake. Start Thorton but he better not ************ up again.
I didn't think he was at fault on either goal. Boca let TnT have a free header. That will often result in a goal!
This game is not even the issue. I don't think giving up a goal to the best player in the leauge is the issue. The issue is the way he breaks down at the ends of games. He is overweight and his weight is affecting his endurance. This is how I see it anyway.
It happens to the best of us. I'm just wondering if it will take a trainer or Bob to tell him that he needs to cut down.
It is impossible for me to understand how a pro athlete can have this problem. Zach is probably a big guy anyway, but he is carrying 30 lbs too much.
By the way, Adin Brown is a big guy who is coming on strong, so if Zach wants to have a USA future, he must really kick it up a notch.I say this as a USA fan, not a Rev fan.
I don't think weight is Zach's biggest problem. How much endurance does he need? He's not a field player. Concentration seems to be the bigger issue. That, and a defense that plays well for long periods and then completely forgets what it's supposed to be doing.
Sh!t can the fat ass. We should have got rid of him when the MLS has 12 teams and got some draft picks for him. Rings block goals not holes.
I would rather have my 9 year old sister in goal than Henry Ring. My sister is barely 4 feet tall. Ring is terrible. ...Subliminal messeges...
Hostess not only makes cupcakes, they make those 75-cent pies. Then the "who ate all the pies" chant would really fit.
Z A C H T H O R N T O N Ring is NOT an option. I do not recall all of these attacks on Zach a month or so ago when the Fire was in first place. I do not notice that he has suddenly gained a ton since that time - so I do not see his weight as a main factor. The Fire has taken a beating in dead ball situations. The defenders have got to be sharper in the box and they have to remember the game ends when the whistle blows and that they have to defend until then. There have been too many last minute/stoppage time goals. Give him forwards and attacking mids who can find the back of the net. We cannot win without scoring. Lately, I find myself screaming "take the *@#$^%# shot!!!" I would rather see a missed attempt than yet another 10 pass set up which only ends up resulting in a turn over.
What about the last goal? The goal the Fire gave up to NE was pathetic and took alot of air out the team and stadium. I was at the game so I haven't had the benefit of watching it again, but it seemed to me Zach could have stopped that one. It was on a counter-attack and the defense fell asleep. I was filled with quite a bit of dread after that goal. Thankfully the Fire was able to overcome due to the home crowd. If we were on the road, we might have been out.
The NE goal was somewhat of a fluke. The shot was great and I doubt many, if any keepers could have stopped it. it was just perfectly placed. The problem was the improbable flight of the ball back toward the Fire's penalty area off the player's heads. It landed in exactly the right spot for it to be too far for Zach to come out, perfectly located for Kamler to run on to it, and between the Fire defenders.
