I know it's been said before but I really do worry for Liam Miller next season and can't see how Ferguson intends to fit him into a midfield ahead of Keane, Giggs, Scholes, C.Ronaldo and possibly Darren Fletcher, Djemba Djemba and Nicky Butt. With United after buying Saha this season and Ronaldos form being pretty good for the past few months the situation is even more complicated for the youngster. At first I thought well maybe Giggs will step-aside put Ronaldo on the left and Miller on the right but then Giggs starts to get his form back and Ronaldo finally becomes effective, cutting down on his step-overs. Then I thought well you could stick Scholes behind VanNistlerooy and put Miller in the centre with Keano but then they signed Saha and look as if they want two front-men. What to do?
Miller needs to do some serious game practice pre season if he is to have any chance with Ireland for the qualifiers. I thought he was as bad as Veron was for Chelsea last night against Villareal. Butt and Kleberson will be on the way out during the summer. Roy Keane is playing less and less and therefore if he can get himself above Djemba-Djemba (possible I add) then he should get a reasonable run assuming Fergie does not snatch another midfielder to replace Butt and/or Kleberson. Wait and see but I do not see him anymore as a substitute for Ireland for at least the rest of the year. Kilbane seems to be the option that Kerr wants to investigate at the heart of midfield at the moment. Closey
Nah I just cant stand backstabbing, if he had confessed to wanting a move and said he wasnt signing then fair play to him, bugger off. What Miller did was stall while playing the fans with comments like" I love it here, i look forward to signing a new deal and staying here" while in negotiations behind our back, signing a pre-contract and hanging around for 6 months to leave and give us nothing. For a player who has been with us since he was 14, been nursed through countless injuries by the club and made a total of less than 20 first team appearances in that time the least he could do is show a little gratitude and be honest with the fans and the club, f*** him.
I wouldn't assume that Butt or Kleberson are leaving until it happens. Butt seems to be on his way out after what happened this last year. Then again, that's been said before and he's still at Old Trafford. And SAF did just buy Kleberson. If he's not going to offload Forlan, why would he hurry up and offload Kleberson? As for Miller (Liam, right?), I don't know what would happen with him next year. I wouldn't mind seeing him loaned out to a club in the 1st division or even the EPL for the 1st 3 months of the season. Some playing time would do him good given the prospect of trying to play ahead of those others.
Yep, Miller was shocking against Villareal but you have to remember he has been out for the guts of 3 or 4 months with an injury. His touch was very poor but that is only to be expected as he hadn't started a game since his injury and only played because of injury to other players. When he goes to United I expect to see him play relatively regularly. He is very much an attacking midfielder and I would expect to see him in the team when Scholes is rested or injured. He will be much more suited to the pace of the Premiership than Kleberson who has had a shocking first season. Remember, United always have a really heavy schedule with the League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League so there should be plenty of opportunites for him to impress.
Of the names mentioned i would imagine two from three of Djemba Djemba, Kleberson and Nicky Butt are on their way out at the end of the season. with the signing of miller, ferguson will have even less reason to keep them around. fletcher has been just ok-to-good for united this season and miller already is a much better player than him. fletcher is on a fairly low wage (for a united player) and will be a squad player only. as good a player as ole gunnar is (can't spell his surname) he seems happy to sit on the bench. ferguson had hoped he would be beckham's replacement but that never worked out because of injusy and form. next season will see keane play less than he is at the minute and when he does i think he'll also feature in defence (as much as he hates playing there). united need someone alongside scholes who can chase, tackle and create. i ultimately see miller's best position in the centre but ferguson will play him across the midfield (ala o'shea) in order find his best position. i'm sure he'll get plenty of games (PL, CL, FA Cup and the other cup) provided he's up to it. if not, then perhaps he wasn't the messiah we were all hoping for.
Has anybody noticed that this is the IRELAND forum... we don't go into Spurs forum (they have the most Irish player) talk ign tactics and who should be called up, etc... now do we?
Aiden is glasgow born of scottish parents, but he is eligible for ireland and is kinda favouring them, although nothing is set in stone yet till you effectively cap tie him. He scored. Miller should never play for us again, he is causing divisions within the support and hes really not worth it.
He's an u18 international and says he's definitely playing for us. Apparently he was outstanding on his full debut today and his goal was supposed to be good too.
mcgeady - i think it would be shrewd of kerr to cap him against either romania or holland given that there is a bit of hype about him at the moment and bertie vogts apparantly has already asked him reconsider declaring for scotland. he does seem to know what he wants, and that in itself great to see. i'm trying not to get carried away based on stories of his golf-balf juggling prowess alone, but it was good to see him score on his debut, and robbie keane had his first cap around the same age and not long into his career at wolves and he's been in the team since... i'm probably being over-optimistic, but the thought of david connolly or gary doherty ever leading the line for us again is a little depressing and it's only an injury away...
