I agree that it helps attendence to play most of the games on the weekend, but what are we supposed to do mid-week. There's hardly any news that isn't known shortly after the weekend's games. MLSNet has had the same boring article about goalies being made for 2 days now. I think there are only 13 mid-week games all season. I am not complaining about the schedule, I prefer the stadiums to be more full on weekends, I'm just saying that I am jonesing for some action. I'll watch FSW tonight, but at work, I need domestic soccer scoop and there isn't much so far.
I taped the Quakes v. Wizards game and watched the 1st half again last night and will watch the 2nd half sometime later this week. It keeps the jonesing to a minimum, and I've already discovered that some of my initial impressions on the match were probably in error. So it's something.
not that it matters, but just so no one thinks I am ONLY a BigSoccer and MLS geek: just finished Walker Percy's "The Second Coming" just finished Sebald's "The History of Natural Destruction" (his "Austerlitz" is not to be missed, a modern day classic) am 60 pages into Whitman's "Leaves of Grass", which i read in college but it's been too long am reading Jack Kornfeld's "A Path With a Heart", about buddhist meditation, and have even started an admittedly minor meditation practice am reading Galleano's "Soccer in Sun and Shadow" for fourth time saw 4 great indy movies either in theatre or on dvd in last week am keeping up with the only tv show i keep up with nowadays, "Six Feet Under" went for beautiful two hour walk through San Diego canyon with dandelions in such bloom that i thought i was walking through a Van Gogh painting. also went for beautiful walk on beach. living in san diego! ha! wrote a poem. probably not a very good one. submitted three others to online internet magazine. am keeping track of my dreams, though recently i can't quite remember them. admittedly have not been working out very much recently but have had phases like this before, and hopefully soon will be back out there busting tail once again. but i'm gaining weight...o well. even got to see the 2nd half of Hearts v. Celtic game last night. brilliant stuff! and i've lived with a lovely woman (in my eyes anyway) for five years! anyway, just for the record; not the most exciting life, but i don't ONLY obsess about MLS and BigSoccer...
FlashMan, Do you work or sleep? How do you find all the time to do the stuff that you mentioned? Why are you in the middle of reading multiple books?
I sleep fine. I go through periods where I read one book at a time, and then others where I have 4 or 5 going at once. The key is, unfortunately, I don't have kids (I wish I did). If I did, I'd be reading nothing but children's books. It's amazing the older you get how you learn to use your time efficiently if you want to. That, and my job isn't an overly taxing one. Most of the time. But believe me, my life is far from perfect, and could get worse at a moment's notice. I'm thankful for every moment, as much as I can be. As schmucky as that sounds.
Flashman, I work full time, only sleep 6 hours a night (or less) and dont feel I've got the time to do 25% of what you listed. My list is short: I've kept up with the NHL playoffs I keep up with Six Feet Under and the re-runs of all four seasons of Sopranos I just started my 18th season on CM 01/02 with Coventry, finally got my stadium expanded!! Oh, and work out an hour each day.
I think you guys do a lot more than you think or I wrote it in such a way to make it sound like I do much more than I do. I was just trying to make a simple point: I don't only follow my soccer obsession; I do have other interests. But enough of me. I shouldn't have written it at all. Hopefully this thread will die.
Not so much lately. I feel like a few weeks ago the writers said, "Oh, we've got twenty-four episodes? WTF? How are we going to fill now? I know, let's bring in some characters and plotlines that haven't even been hinted at before, that should help us stall for time." /digression
