I came to ask and was happy to see this post. Good proactive work. I will say, kudos to The Beat for being upfront with Carrie (I think the forwards are already decided for this team) and giving her a realistic shot at making the league by letting her go through the entire camp with Philly. That's how you run a company -- keep good will going because you never know when you'll need that good karma.
I agree with the good will comment. It makes no sense to hang on to a player that you will end up cutting anyway. Are any of the practices open to the public ?
pure speculation but christine latham's twitter on feb. 28 said going to the ATL, does she have or tryout or is it just a coincidence?
That's a good pickup for the Beat. She may make the roster. I think the Beat have enough forwards. Maybe Latham will get looked at as a midfielder. F - Ramona Bachman (Switzerland) F - Johanna Rasmussen (Denmark) F - Monica Ocampo (Mexico) F - Shelley Thompson (Germany) F - Amanda Cinalli F/M - Christine Latham M - Tobin Heath Bar Crunch M - Stacy Bishop M - Angie Kerr (Woznuk) M - Mami Yamaguchi (Japan) M - McCall Zerboni M/D - Katie Larkin M/D - Manya Makoski D - Shameka Gordon D - Blakely Mattern D - Kia McNeill D - Sharolta Nonen D - Leigh Ann Robinson GK - Allison Whitworth GK - Brett Maron At least 20 worthy final-cut roster players. Only 18 can make it. What two don't make it through the final cut? I feel a Heath Shake coming on in April. It only comes in one flavor .... "Back of the Net" Would you like a nutmeg with that ??? . . . . . . . . . . . .
Um, are we talking about the Christine Latham the Canadian international who went to Nebraska and played in Boston last WPS season? Because that Latham played for the San Deigo Spirit in the WUSA in 2003 and played NCAA soccer at Nebraska in 2001, 2002. Regardless, if she doesn't have a greencard, then I don't see where Atlanta has room for her. eta: Latham did play for the Silverbacks for a couple of years but that was well after the WUSA folded.
kool-aide is right about Latham. San Diego-2003, Atlanta Silverbacks 2005-08. And unless she got a green card really recently, (or perhaps another international for Atlanta like Ocampo has one), Atlanta doesn't have room for her. That's why Boston had to release her, because they added Sarah Walsh as their 5th international player.
Latham doesn't have a green card yet...but she's close. Boston got the green card process started and wanted Christine to stay with the team....Only she couldn't be on the field until the paperwork came through.... I guess she has family and friends in Atlanta and decided to give it a shot with the Beat...
Lob that question out on Twitter with hashtags for #womensprosoccer, and #whateveratlantais. Might hear some interesting things.
Are you saying that I really do need to finally give in a get a twitter account? sigh. I've held off for for a long time....
So you're the one... get on it, if you can filter out all the nonsense you can actually get some very good, really fast news/info etc...
I come from a long line of late adapters to new technology. My parents didn't get a VCR or microwave until about 1991. I'll ponder it more seriously this weekend....
