How much would you give to win it all in the Champions league? What if we lose the league to Chelski but win the CL? Or if we lose to ManUre and win the CL? Would it even be acceptable to come in third behind both of them? I know Wenger and everyone has commented on how Europe is the next frontier, but I am still a little doubtful that we can prevail in both England and Europe...
'I always want to win everything with my club and my country, but as the World Cup is a long way away, the aim of everyone at Arsenal is to win the Champions League.' - Reyes http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=309027&cc=5901
To put it in simple terms, I personally don't give two buggers about what England achieves. I care about Arsenal. I have seen us win every competition live apart from the Champions League and the Super Cup. Thats what I want to see.
I have to agree with Rick. The Champs League is the top priority in my mind. Retaining the League title is a distant second. In terms of the endgame for the club, winning the CL elevates Arsenal to a different plane.
CL above all else, OF COURSE.... not winning the league would certainly suck.. but those 2 are the only ones that really matter ALL that much to me.. course we could go for the whole friggin lot~
I'm with you on that Rick. The Premiership title is always a great thing and the FA Cup is nice to win, but the Champions League is the one I really want to see as well. Last year I think it took me about a week to get over the depression from getting knocked out. It didn't help losing to ManUre in the FA either. CL is top right now for me.
Well, I guess I'm a traditionalist. I want the Premiership ( I do believe that repeating is harder than getting to the top in the first place), I want the FA Cup, and then I guess comes the Champions League. Now, we haven't won the CL, so I'd have to say that the CL is a closer third. While I'm throwing out wishes, I wish that the League Cup had a modicum of the stature it had 30 years ago (when it was still the third trophy) and that we'd win the English Treble: Premiership, FA Cup and Worthington Cup.
All together now kiddies: "All I want for Christmas (in May) is to win the Champions League , the Champions League"
I'm all for winning the CL. I live in Nottingham for now, and while it's nice to top their unbeaten streak all anyone has to do is quote the back-to-back European Cups to wind me up. You have to admit even if they were as dour as some have said Forest had a heck of a run there, and ManUre with a fairly recent Treble....let's win our own this year! But if we can't do a double or treble, I agree with the others about Europe taking priority for this year.
Do you mean this in general about England? So if England won the World Cup, you wouldn't care that much? Hope you don't think I'm judging you because personally I'm club before country myself. The Champions League is what I want to see the most right now. Ok, so I really want to see the treble but if I had to choose between the 3, Champions League without a doubt. Although winning back-to-back Premiership titles for the first time would be pretty nice too. Eh, just win em all I say.
What I said re not giving a dam about England will piss many English off, but thats just my view. If we reached the World Cup Final, then yes, I'd care. In fct i would make dam sure im in the stadium for the game. But other than that it doesn't bother me. I watch all the games at the World Cup because i love football, but my first priority is to see all the Arsenal players come home uninjured. I certainly can't stand these meaningless friendlies where half the team gets swapped round at half time. And don't worry, I don' think your judgeing me at all!! It's my opinion only and I know it's a controversial one.
Wow, I remember coming onto here last year and having a pretty long-winded discussion over this. The feeling seemed to be that domestic success was valued much more than the CL (of course that was when Arsenal was struggling in their group). Now after an unbeaten EPL championship and a good CL comeback run, people's attitudes have changed a lot. But good luck and may the best team win if our teams should cross paths.
I want the EPL, CL double more then anything, but if I had to choose I would pick the EPL. I want to see Arsenal dominate the EPL more then I want to win the CL. A CL winner that dominates at home is so much more then a one time winner that could not hold out in their own championship. CW
All this is verrry premature, but repeating as League champs is tops with me. We haven't done that since the thirties. Champions plus second plus third plus fourth League next and then FA and then Carling/Milk/Coca Cola/whatever it's called now.
Because we havent won the CL yet is remains a key goal for the club. Lets pretend its 2010 and we have won the CL once or twice in the past - I think Id prefer a domestic league / FA Cup double over the CL win. Im old fashioned like that
I'd really like for Arsenal to have some success in the CL but I'm just not ready yet to give up the EPL to get it. Arsenal has yet to hold on to the EPL title for a second year. Of course I'm hoping that we're deep enough to be able to make a serious run for both.
i'd have to agree... plus i'm not sure we'd be able to do both unless we get more players... with the current squad i think we'll get exhausted again like we did last season. that's the advantage chelsea have with the billions they've got... they can rotate players, let them rest. anyway, i really hope we go further i the CL this time... doubt i could handle crashing out again... but still, we kick @$$!!
We need the European Cup to give Arsenal a fine paragraph in the history books. However, I will settle for back-to-back league titles as a consolation. I think if we can get one more defender to step up, the Champions League is within our grasps. Reyes will go down as a major signing in our European Cup campaign.
What he said except substitute Denmark for England. I don't give a toss about international footie. Sure it was great when we won the EC and all and sure I watch the matches (by the way Helveg and Rommedahl are crap), but for me it's Arsenal first. If the choice stood between watching Arsenal play versus Plymouth and watching Denmark play in a major final I'd choose Arsenal. Damn internationals... Oh and I'm a traditionalist too, give me the league title any day, though the Cl would be nice to bag. KJ
the champions league over everything else. i think that arsenal's prominent players are most concerned with the champions league. it involves a good deal of luck as any team can have a bad ten minutes and get knocked out, but the finances of the game and the international character of teams have created a super league.
