yep, they called offsides absolute nonsense, those offiseds (I think it was Landon and Altidore) had nothing to do with the run of play, and I couldnt even tell if they were offsides in the first place.....
When I watched it the first and second times, I thought it was a bullsh*t call and a fantastic strike. Having watched the full replay slowed down during halftime, I still think it was a fantastic strike, but it looks like Dempsey was slightly offside right as the ball was sent forward to him. I think the official may not have seen his linesman, which would explain why it took so long to call.
the ESPN replay they showed at halftime showed Dempsey barely offside on the original long pass to him. Didn't see anything else in the sequence that was offside. The problem is, why not raise the flag right then and there?? If they let that one go, they should've let the goal stand. Whatever.
The Ref did everything in his power to give the game to Mexico it became offside to him when Dempsey scored the 3rd goal giving the US an insuramountable lead. Kinda like Bofo pushed everyone within 5 miles of him when he had the ball but when a US foreward looked at a Mexican defender the wrong way they got whistled for a foul. Oh well it was fun seeing Altidore and Dempsey make Rafa their beeach.
I meant it was a major mistake for Dempsey to be offside in that situation--it was not a case of unavoidable mistiming.
My thoughts exactly. Exactly. It took us a few minutes to notice that they called it off. We were going berserk.
You can say that again. Firstly, That was a pretty bad "offside" call. Secondly, how many "dangerous" free kicks did Mex have? How many cards did the US have V how many Mex had? My friend who was with me watching his first ever "professional" and international match even made note of how one sided the officiating seemed to be. When someone that has not actively watched soccer can see that, something is definately not right.
It means you watched it with someone that doesn't know crap!!! BTW...it was offsides, which means you are not far behind your buddy there!!
He was definitely OFF. He was a full step behind the line when the ball was played. That's why he was OFF Side. The End!
This is exactly right. He was offside but it was tight. Sometimes you see those called and sometimes you don't. Either way I don't think we can complain about that. Do you know what Mexican fans do when they don't like the result of a game? They complain about the ref. So lets not do it. 2-2 was a fair result.
Ok look at the number of fouls called to the number of cards given. It was disproportionate. Also the number of dangerous free kicks called was disproportinate to the number of fouls called.
Sometimes when a ref calls more fouls on one team its because they've committed more fouls. Our guys committed a lot of stupid fouls in stupid positions. No joke. And they led to dangerous free-kicks. Yes they did. I've gotta be honest, I didn't see one foul called against us where I thought the Mexican player dove. The closest was when Marquez went down like a sack of bricks after Jozy grabbed him. That was probably a dive, but he was fouled.
I don't think the Mexicans did much diving, but my problem is not with the number of fouls called against us. It was the number of fouls the ref FAILED to call against the Mexicans. Both teams did plenty of pushing, but only one team was consistently called for it.
CONCACAF refs are shocking. Yellow cards given for questionable fouls and the continued rewards for obvious diving continues. Having said that: at the time the ball was played half of Dempseys body is offside/onside. The problem is interpretation of the rule. The linesman raised his flag right way but the ref didn't see it till after the goal was scored. Offside was a harsh decision in my opinion. As for the numerous set pieces given to the mexicans in our third? Most, including the two goals, were preceded by horrible giveaways in the midfield. Concacaf ref.s aside our real problem is allowing the Mexicans to not only receive passes in the midfield with little pressure, but then letting them turn and run at us. On the other hand our midfield was constantly met with compact and immediate pressure resulting in perpetual giveaways. And one more thing, I hope I never see Convey paired with Corrales on the left side ever again. BTW did Donovan play the second half?
Did you hear the commentator say that Hugo was trying to play the ball to that side because there was something he could exploi [an out of form Convey and the worst defensder to wear the Mens jersey since Agoos]. I guess hes no fool after all... Ok well yea he is but he isnt a blind fool.
We suck, we let the other team control possession of the ball. When are we going to demand possession of the ball. We let these teams attack us. Its Stupid! We shouldnt blame the dam ref, we should blame ourselves. What does Convey offer, some1 please tell me. What we need is what Adu did the last minute of the game. We possessed, Adu unbalanced the defense and got fouled in a good spot. We need more of that. All of our mids play so defensively and we resolve to the long ball...WHY! Im not complaining about our goals, but I really want to see a goal that comes from a nice build up, not necessarily a cross then a header. We need more possession more confidence on the ball. Ricardo Clark? not a big fan. I want to see us play futbol, not necessarily soccer. oh and...the replays I saw I didnt notice the offside, but only saw it once. Good goal though.
Who is the worst defender since Agoos? Drew Moor? That guy is not even a star in MLS for gods sakes, why is he on the Nats?
