If they name this team "Boom" I am officially finished with MLS.

See.. I think we need to name them "Boom", that way we find out who the true fans are and who the pousers are.

Seriously, the only names off the table should be:

    United
    Fire
    Metroscum
    Revolution
    Crew
    Rapids
    Wizards
    Galaxy
    Earthquakes
    Burn
    Chivas de SLC

    YMMV, but I'm always right.

Hopefully everyone will consult this thread before they throw out "Utah Saints" in the other one, thinking they are the first to come up with that.

For anyone still thinking Saints, Boom, or something with a double-z, Checketts has already vetoed these names. (thank heavens)

The only reason I can see someone suggesting concept names such as Storm, Power, ala WUSA/WNBA is that they are a Rapids fan and are hoping that SLC will have a stupid name that is easy to ridicule.

There's enough to ridicule with out a stupid name, but I don't think any Rapids fan would be able to throw any stones about names.

I love my team...but "The Rapids?" A small part of me hopes we pull a Dallas Burn someday; change the name and go back to green.

I always thought "Colorado Rapids" was one of the better names in MLS...

Whatever they do, they shouldn't name the SLC team the "Yankees", "Lakers", or "Patriots." That would be just plain wrong.

I don't see why we can't copy the names that are already used. There are so many dorks out there who want to name an MLS team Arsenal or Wanderers or Rovers, forgetting about the fact that there already is an Arsenal, Wanderers and Rovers. Why not SLC Fire, we have fires out here all the time, or SLC Galaxy, were part of the Galaxy too. I got a great idea, lets get our own freakin' name and quit with the wannabe copying of someone else's history.

"I'll ask him, but I don't think he'll be very keen, you see, he's already got one."

I hope and pray that it's not the BOOM, can you imagine what Tom Kirkland on Ch 5 would do with that, it's just stupid. I like the Buffalo Soldiers, cool name, it's pc, cool theme song (and bob was usually high so all the Ute fans will be happy-just kidding) i mean it's got everything!

And Rapids is one of the better names in MLS. I've thought so since '96 --
that, DC United, and Metrostars -- after we dropped the NY/NJ bit, and most of us out here just call them Metro, as does MSG-TV and many of the newspapers.

Not 'Colorado' Rapids, just Rapids -- or Denver.

You need to break in with a moniker that commands respect or resentment -- pretty much the same thing in MLS.
