Agatha Christie? Read her books as a kid after being forced to read and then there were none in school.
Binge watched the Sex Pistols miniseries "Pistol," directed by Danny Boyle. It is fantastic. Hilarious, a bit brutal, sad, poignant. Told from the point of view of Steve Jones, which 1) is not a surprise (being based in his autobiography) and 2) is rather nice, since most Sex Pistols stories focus only on Johnny Rotten and/or Sid. Chrissie Hynde is actually the best character in the show. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who plays Malcolm McLaren, is great.
Working on researching some similar films for the next script I'm writing. Today I've watched Maria, finished up My Name, and am about to start Lady Vengeance. Maria is a Filipino action film. The story is incredibly clunky, the actor who played the villain may be at fault for some of it, but the action set pieces were fine and the lead actress was good. The sound mixer should never work again cause of how many times I had to change the volume on my speakers to hear characters speak, only to be blasted away by punches that sounded like bombs. I forgot about most of My Name because I haven't seen it since November. But, I was sorta sinking back into the story and as far as I remember it was good. It's a Korean action revenge series, I just finished up the last episode today. Had some fun twists and even more fun action sequences. I haven't started watching Lady Vengeance but I wanted to watch Oldboy again. Turns out, they took it off the school library streaming service so I'm watching the third in the trilogy instead, despite not seeing the first in the series. If you can't tell from that mix, my next script is a female-led revenge story set in Korea.
That reminds me of a long time ago when I used to hang out at the Doc Store by Clark and Belmont with local Chicago SHARP crews. Go to shows up at the Metro or the Fire Side Bowl. Grab a late night snack at Salt and Peppers. Good times.
I would suggest you do not let your dislike of the Fire cross into this topic. You’re way off and you’ll just dig a hole you can’t get out of. This topic is harsh politics territory.
"Broadcast Signal Intrusion" Filmed in Chicago in 2019. Received its premier at the Chicago Film Festival in 2020. One major scene was filmed at the bar my partner managed at the time. She even received a "Thank You" credit at the end. The movie royally sucked, unfortunately.
I don't frequent this thread much but I remembered I forgot I remembered that I watched "Coolie High" a few weeks ago free on You Tube. What a Chicago time slice masterpiece plus Lawrence-Hilton. Growing up in Pittsburgh it didn't really mean much to me but after spending 32 years in Chicago and remembering Cabrini-Green Gardens as an actual thing it had some memories for me.
Rewatched Spirited Away last night and watching Lost in Translation tonight. Two of my favorite all time movies. I talk a lot of trash about Miyazaki in general, but what he lacks in writing ability, he greatly makes up for in imaginative visuals and creating an environment you can absolutely immerse yourself in. Meanwhile, The more I dissect Lost in Translation, the more I love it. I don't know how anyone could've thought Sofia Coppola was just gonna ride on her father's name after Virgin Suicides came out, but there's just so many different themes that I love and relate to in this film. I sometimes struggle to relate to others in my film classes because most of my favorite things are anime-based, but I think this might always be my favorite film.
That was just her failing to be an actress, which she was never good at. Besides, Godfather 3 was 1990, Virgin Suicides was 1999, and Lost in Translation was 2003
