Firmly in last place with a game to go. A bunch of people in line to owe me a beer but will they be like @United1 and ignore their responsibility?
Dang, I was so proud of this board for being able to go a whole blessed week without a post. (Was helping me understand what it must be like being a Yuki Tsunoda or Lance Stroll fan....)
Look, the spoon sucks. By definition, the worst team in the league. But let’s add some real spice to next week’s game against Atlanta. Loser has to keep Klich as a DP for another season, full salary obligations and all.
If DCU wins and the galaxy and KC lose there would be a 3 way tie with Atlanta for the least points. This is the real Decision Day drama but I’m not expecting MLS to pimp this
It's funny. I remember at the beginning of the season when DC United made that horrible-seeming trade - keeping the DP slot and most of the salary - and now seeing that it really didn't make much difference.
This has played out pretty much how I expected with the gals getting results against Dallas and SKC leaving everything to play for at our new stadium this weekend. You guys who still go to games should throw spoons on the field at the end of the regardless of the result.
LOL maybe the fans of terrible MLS teams will bring giant sandbox spoons to wave around in the stands like the fans of terrible NFL teams wear paper bags over their heads.
I don't think it would take a long time for most of them to figure it out. I want a 5-spoon T-shirt for next season. 5 spoons below the crest with 4 stars above it.
I love this idea, but can a true fan actually wear such a thing? Wait, what if you add a "Leviathan and Craplan - Sell the team" on the back? Then it surely would be okay! Oh man, there could be a whole line of this! imagine if the jock straps, er, the folks in the athletic supporter's section, started waving banners of stars and spoons?! ooh, ooh, and create a new song/chant "Stars and Spoons Forever" to Sousa's similarly named song and alter up one stanza of the lyrics... Acoustix – The Stars And Stripes Forever Lyrics | Genius Lyrics
People might learn a bit if they sold foam spoons or spoon hats, like the green bay cheese head hats. Jason "anything for a buck" Levien
Cleveland once held a parade when the Browns went 0-16, so sure, I could wear that shirt. I'd rather not be in this position, but now that I am, I may as well have some fun with it.
DC is just cursed. Tim Bogert’s all MLS teams are out. Andy Najar second team, that hurts, but Chris McVey third team is just brutal.
When you hire bargain bin coaches and trainers you get players who are not utilized or cared for in ways that maximize their skills and abilities. Levien and Kaplan have hired after dismissing Olsen, a sociopath, an incompetent coach using his playing days as a superstar as "qualifications" and, finally, a totally incompetent coach. Maybe Weiler will be different, at least he publicly stated that the current roster stinks, so there's that. As for the training staff, everybody remember Boyzz Khumalo's dripping cast?
I have almost no hope whatsoever for Weiler, who will be gone after the season, and even less for the paperback writer.
I don't see anything surprising about this, nor am I bothered by it at this point. As @griffin1108 notes, this is the path that DC United's ownership has chosen. Its certainly no reflection on anyone but Levien & Kaplan who looked like bufoons when they went on that channel 5 interrview. While some call it genuine and to some degree it is, they want the club to win, but they lack any understanding of what it takes to actually win or even run a successful business centered around service and customer satisfaction. The club has operating income (profit) of $10M from $90M in revenue. These guys couldn't find their asses with both hands when it comes to the sporting side of the business. That $10M is the difference between being a top 10 spender or a bottom of the league spender. They some how spent $25M on a bunch of class B office space that they turned into our training facility while clubs that are serious have spent 3-4x as much.
Just watched 3 games while on the Round 1 PBP thread. It's a nice way to watch teams you don't really care about. I will say, watching San Diego play reminds me of the 90's DC United - minus the clinical finishing of a Diaz Arce, Moreno or Lassiter.
