Hey! - Albright was one of the best defenders we ever had. When he was a forward for us, we could be certain no balls would be going in the net. So the coaches put him on defense and sure enuff no balls went into the net.
Man, youse guyz getting down to Lite-Bright level brings back memories i thought had left a long time ago.... Thanks for that?
This ought to make for interesting times when he comes to play DC.... Our fans, SGs and manglement have a long history of arbitrary regation of political speech. https://www.axios.com/local/columbus/2025/07/29/crew-mls-israel-palestine-wessam-abou-ali
By itself, sure. But as a potential flashpoint? Not overestimating at all. MAGA ginned up this fake left reaction to the Sweeney jeans ad. Wingnuts found some Twitter accounts with triple digit followers who were upset about the ads, replied with wingnut heavy hitters, and made it into a 3 day story. So long as the MSM will chase whatever squirrel the wingnuts point out to them, many, many things are potential flashpoints. I mean, the administration has already extorted several universities using the excuse of student protests about Gaza. And it has also used bullshit in order to unleash federal troops on 2 cities now, one of which is DC. I can easily imagine some nimrod bringing an Israeli flag to the match and taunting the player with it, hoping for a “dildo on the WNBA court” reaction. Hello ICE checkpoints at Audi. There are many awful things about fascism, and one of them is that fascists have no ideology except accumulating power. So every field of human endeavor, from sports to the arts to cancer research, is a potential battlefield. It’s exhausting.
Oh, I see. Acosta thinks he should be the GM as well as playmaker. If he just stuck to what he was good at, he'd likely be going to the playoffs again this year. Asad, sure. What a tragic move by Albright.
Asad was quite good for Cincinnati in limited minutes last year while getting paid the league minimum, and he and Acosta have been friends since their first year together in DC. There are reasons why Acosta said what he said in his rant about Albright.
Agreed. I'd just add that the far more likely scenario is that a person shows up at Audi Field with a Palestine flag and the President Of The United States uses that as evidence to show that Major League Soccer, LLC is anti-semitic and needs to be shut down immediately unless they purchase $20 million worth of his personal crypto venture.
^^^^^^^^^^ That scenario is very plausible. In all seriousness, if Trump and/or his administration was more strategic, provoking an incident at an MLS game fits the bill. Most of the league is in blue states (or Canada) and I’m pretty confident his base hates our super gay, foreign sport. And even in the red states, he can feed into rural paranoia about Those People in Miami, Nashville, etc. PS…that last paragraph originally was “almost the whole league” but when I stopped to think about it, there are two teams in Florida, 3 in Texas, 2 in Missouri, 2 in Ohio, etc. MLS originals are almost wall to wall blue states, and even Ohio was purple if not blue when the Crew started. The last 10 or so teams are mostly blue dots in red states. I don’t think it means anything, but it’s interesting to note.
It's wild to go by RFK and see much more evident demolition progress now. Many of the pieces of the canopy have been removed leaving just the steel supports.
It’s absolutely disgusting to turn on the Leeds game and see Red Bulls plastered on the front of their kits.
FTR, that happened at least twice last year. The second time I saw them take it down and the story behind it is that the policy on flags is that they must be the flag of a nation, which palestine is not.
here was the sign MLS put up in some stadiums: No country or nationality flags at MLS games now. pic.twitter.com/Yw4id4IXAF— Chris Kessell (@THEChrisKessell) October 21, 2023 So it appears that flags being "carried" are not allowed, but fixed flags are allowed.
This is such a stupid, pathetic and cowardly policy. Ever since 1996, MLS fans have waved the flags of the countries their compatriots are from. I remember Bolivia and El Salvador among others during our first few years. Such a sad state of affairs.
So either the policy has been revoked or it is being enforced selectively if at all because I've seen national flags at games this season.
Here is the currently published MLS Fan Code of Conduct: Fan Code of Conduct | MLSsoccer.com and current published code of conduct for Audi Field: Fan Code of Conduct - Audi Field which is the same thing. Maybe decisions on what is permitted are based on what stadium staff perceive the intended message to be communicated by the person with the flag? fun times
According to The Athletric, MLS has approved the request submitted by Crew fans to fly the Palestinian flag. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6564423/2025/08/20/palestinian-flag-mls-columbus-crew/ "MLS will allow the display of a Palestinian flag at Columbus Crew home games in support of new signing Wessam Abou Ali but a league-wide ban will remain, according to multiple people briefed on the situation..." The 26-year-old striker was the Crew’s marquee signing of the summer, and his arrival preceded the club’s leading supporter group, the Nordecke, submitting a request to bring the relevant national flags in support of their players during matches."
