Better than France vs. Germany. More compelling than Argentina vs. Brazil. More serious than England vs. Ireland... Only downside is "Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday" doesn't sound as good as "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!"
My midfield preferred tix have a $60 face value for the MTL game and they're selling my seats for $107. Is El Salvador/Bonaire really a matchup worthy of a 78% premium?
I wonder how long they will allow themselves to be fleeced by their federation? I mean, they are some die hards and super loyal but at some point you'd think they say enough is enough...
Who or what is a “Bonaire”? I took a geography class some years ago where we had to name every nation on the map — literally, not figuratively — and I don’t remember that one.
Not an MLS team, but Donovan Pines scored for Barnsley in his third game playing. They have won all three, one was a promotion battle.
Wikipedia is your friend: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonaire Formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles, which I do actually remember. Just off the coast of Venezuela. Technically a part of the Netherlands. Smaller geographically than Fairfax County (roughly half the size) with a population smaller than Va Tech’s enrollment (24,000). El Salvador must be desperate to find someone they can beat.
They haven't won a game since June 2022 under Hugo Perez. They (somewhat) did a decent job scouting Salvadoran-Americans into playing for the national team, these players not good enough for the USMNT anyway. Remember when some fans wanted Hugo Perez to coach D.C. United? He barely can't hold a coaching job for more than a year or two.
While I understand that the Inter Messis won by 5 but do they really need 17+ minutes in a 60 minute wrap up show to cover it? Bad enough that the Messi Season Pass is Messi Messi Messi Messi. Messi Messi Messi Messi Messi...
They're doing everything they can think of to try and invest/convert those Messi fans into MLS fans. They DGAF about you or me as fans/subscribers. Ultimately, I think they'll fail. LAG didn't seem to keep the Zlatan fans after he left, although the timing was shit and everyone hated the FO. We definitely didn't keep a substantial chunk of the Rooney fans. What's Apple going to do after he retires? Buy Neymar for some lucky team? I don't think he's the draw Messi is. More on the level of Rooney & Zlatan. Who else has that drawing power? Mbappe? Not sure he's on Messi's level in driving subscriptions.
I see your point but focusing on Messi isn't going to reflect their undying devotion onto MLS. It isn't how people work. See DC after RDA or Rooney and LA after Cienfuegos (sp?) or Becks or Zlatan...
Right but if they abandon the team when said player leaves, they are not loyal to the team. The point is that MLS wants to try to do something other teams have not been successful in doing. Particularly with Messi.
@revelation, this was up in your neck of the woods: OK so I give a lot of latitude to teams trying to entertain/endear themselves to their local fans, but ...that thing, uhh, bounced. No wood crackling open to reveal tea or at least tea-like contents? Maybe a kiddie pool fashioned into a fake Boston Harbor? Something? https://t.co/zaXQPDhE5r— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) March 4, 2024 I can't wait until DC pulls some kind of lame fan activity that other team's fans can make fun of.
Well, I love a good box throwing as much as the next person but I'm not sure this would have raised my excitement. Box throwing is for when you are frustrated attempting a handy home/work project and you want to throw the item or the wrench or hammer but are concerned about breaking windows/other equipment so you hurl the box... It is not a light toss in a direction...
